MLB Baseball – Lee, Nolasco Prepare For Clash In Florida

Warm up for some Preakness betting in a couple of weeks with thoroughbreds of another sort on Wednesday in MLB betting action, as Philadelphia will be in Florida for a battle of National League East rivals. The Phillies will send out Cliff Lee, who hasn’t been getting any support from his offense, while the Marlins will give the ball to Ricky Nolasco.

Phillies Marlins Betting – Wednesday, 7:10 PM ET

Lee (2-3, 3.69) now has four starts in which he’s reached double figures in strikeouts, but he is 2-2 in those starts after a 5-0 loss at home against Atlanta in which he whiffed 16 batters, which is his new career high. Lee allowed three runs on nine hits over seven innings of work, and he walked only one hitter, but once again, he was let down by his offense, which has scored a single run in his last three starts. MLB betting players know that it doesn’t matter how good your pitcher is, the team has to score some runs for him, and Lee is currently fifth-lowest in the National League in run support. Lee is 1-0 in two starts against the Marlins with a 4.09 ERA, and in his lone start in Florida, the 32-year-old lefty was victorious, although he posted a 5.40 ERA.

Nolasco (3-0, 3.23) took a no-decision in a 3-2 loss at home against Washington, giving up two runs on six hits over seven innings, and he had 11 strikeouts with a pair of walks. Nolasco has been known to be inconsistent over his career, but he’s been pretty steady so far this season; it’s just a matter of whether he can keep it up or not. The 28-year-old righthander is 6-3 in 12 outings (nine starts) against the Phillies with a 3.78 ERA, and he’s 1-0 in four starts at home with a 2.30 ERA.

Those making NFL picks don’t have much to do right now, so they should move over to the baseball lines, where they will see the Marlins as a slight favorite on Wednesday, although it wouldn’t be surprising to see Lee get the nod in this series finale. Heading into the series, the Phillies had eight of their last 10 in Florida, and this could be a low-scoring affair as players have to face Roy Halladay and Josh Johnson on Tuesday night. Having to face Lee and Nolasco the next night is no picnic either, so both sets of hitters could be exhausted. The Phillies have to do something to generate runs for Lee, because you can’t put that kind of pressure on your pitchers, even with guys like Lee, Roy Halladay, Cole Hamels and Roy Oswalt in your rotation. The Phillies’ attack should find some life, so take Philadelphia when you’re betting online on Wednesday.
