Atlanta took the early edge in this series with a 4-1 victory on Friday night as a 113 road favorite. It was the Braves sixth win in their last 10 games to run their overall record to 65-48. They have fallen 8.5 games behind the red-hot Phillies in the division, but they still lead Arizona by 3.5 games in the wildcard race. Heading into Saturday’s game, Atlanta is 34-22 at home this season and 31-26 on the road.

Pitching remains the driving force behind Atlanta’s success this year. It is ranked ninth in the NL in scoring with 455 runs, but its 3.30 team ERA is tied with San Diego for third-best in the league. Jair Jurrjens is slated to get the start for the Braves on Sunday. He is 12-4 on the year with a 2.63 ERA, but has been struggling since the All-Star break with an ERA of 6.26 in four starts. Jurrjens is 8-4 against the Mets with a 2.94 ERA.

Friday’s loss was New York’s fifth in-a-row after previously winning five straight. It is now one game below .500 at 55-56 and nine games behind the Braves in the wildcard race. The Mets are 33-27 on the road, but just 22-29 at Citi Field this year.

A scoring drought has led to New York’s recent slide as its lineup has only managed to produce a total of nine runs in the last five games after pounding out an average of 7.6 runs in the five-game winning streak. The Mets will send Dillon Gee to the mound on Sunday. He has owned the Braves this season with two wins and an ERA of just 0.56 in three previous starts. Gee is 10-3 with a 3.69 ERA overall this year in 17 previous outings.

Head-to-head this season, the series is knotted at five games apiece heading into Game 2 of this series on Saturday. The total stayed ‘under’ the 7.5 line on Friday and has stayed ‘under’ in six of the 10 games overall.

The odds makers have the Atlanta Braves as a -1.5 point favorite with an run total of 7.5.

Predition: The ‘under’ could be the strongest play in this one with two quality pitchers on the mound, but stick with Mets to squeak out enough runs to get the win.
