Pitching Probables: Jonathan Sanchez vs Huroki Kuroda

With the Padres faltering the Giants are very much in the race with less than a month to go. They are 2 back of San Diego in the division and only 3 back of Philly in the Wild Card race. SF hasn’t been playing great but when the team ahead of you loses nine in a row it is easy to make up ground. These two teams split the first two games of the series and have split down the middle all 14 games this season thus far. LA can play spoiler here and would love to upset their best rival and keep them from the playoffs. All this makes for a nice Sunday night hookup on ESPN. Giants starter Jonathan Sanchez has fantastic stuff but is very inconsistent. He can shut you down like he did against Colorado last time out but he has been absolutely horrible against the Dodgers in his career, 0-6 with an ERA over 6. Not exactly the guy you want in such an important spot.

The Dodgers season has been off the rails for some time and their give up has been confirmed by the loss of Manny Ramirez. You can say what you want about him but the truth is they were a much better team with him in the lineup despite the headaches he causes. They are 5-5 in their last ten and it is coming to be that this is just a .500 team, despite preseason expectations. Given the rivalry nature of this game there should be enough juice flowing that they will take it seriously. Hiroki Kuroda has had some success against San Fransciso but more importantly is a much better pitcher at home than on the road. Amazingly he has no starts against the Giants this year. Despite their overall struggles the Dodgers have handled their division with a great record of 31-19.

Prediction: Look for LA to sting the Giants by taking the game tonight and the series. Pride does count for somethings. On the safe side I would take the over.
