Pitching Probables: Tim Lincecum vs Roy Halladay

Aces usually start the first game of a series but I can’t remember the last time a matchup was as anticipated as this one. Tim Lincecum was superb in his lone start against Atlanta. If he can come up with a similar performance to start this series the Giants may be able to steal the game and get a leg up in a series which is going to be very difficult for them to win. We all know what Lincecum is capable of but it would be helpful if they actually scored some runs to back him up. In six games against Philadelphia during the regular the Giants averaged 4.5 runs per game. In the NLDS they reached that total only once. If they can score 4 in game one they can definitely win the opener.

It will be very hard for Roy Halladay to top his first ever playoff start but given his talent and preparation I expect another great performance. He is so efficient with his pitches, so even though it is late in the season he is still showing no signs of fatigue. If anything I think the playoffs are invigorating him. The great thing about the Phillies is that they have been here before(NLCS), twice already and won. Their lineup was a little sleepy against Cincy but with lefties like Ryan Howard, Chase Utley and Raul Ibanez they can punish even the best righthanders. Howard has a history of lighting up Lincecum, half of his hits off him are homers.

Prediction: There is so much buildup about the starters it is hard to imagine they will both live up to the hype. Everyone will be treated to a typical Halladay performance – two runs given up and a two hour game.

Philadelphia is -163 and the O/U is 6.

Score Prediction:
Philadelphia Phillies – 5
San Francisco Giants – 2
