MLB American League Power Rankings

The 2010 Major League Baseball regular season is well over a third of the way complete and after the first 11 weeks of action some teams have made an early statement they hope to carry right through this summer while some others have already dug themselves a hole they may not be able to climb out of.

All 14 American League teams may still have the dream of making it all the way to this year’s World Series, but in reality there are only a handful of teams that actually have a chance. Here is a look at my top four teams in the AL after the first three weeks of June and their current odds to win the Pennant and the World Series.

New York Yankees Odds to win the AL Pennant 8-5 World Series 5-2

Despite suffering a rare three game losing streak at home last week, New York has gone 6-4 in their last 10 and is back on top in the AL East. With a record of 43-26; the best in the Majors they currently have a one game lead over both Tampa Bay and Boston in the division. The Yankees pitching remains solid as they are tied with Minnesota with the second best team ERA (3.80) in the AL. Their team batting average (.276) is ranked fourth in the league. They are second only to Boston in runs scored with 376, an average of 5.45 per game.

Texas Rangers Odds to win the AL Pennant 13-1 World Series 30-1

Texas is one of the hottest teams in the Majors having won nine out of their last 10 games and eight in a row. With an overall record of 41-28, they have opened up a 3 ½ game lead over Los Angeles in the AL West. They have been getting it done with both their arms and their bats as they are ranked fourth in the AL in team ERA (3.97) and third in team batting average (.277). The Rangers are averaging 5.14 runs per game, fourth best in the league.

Minnesota Twins Odds to win the AL Pennant 8-1 World Series 14-1

Minnesota continues to battle Detroit for the lead in the AL Central as they are currently 40-29 and lead the Tigers by 1 ½ games in the division. They have been especially good at home with an overall record of 23-13. The Twins have mainly relied on the strength of their pitching as their 3.80 team ERA is second best in the AL. They are sixth in the league with a team batting average of .272 and are seventh in runs scored with 329; an average of 4.77 per game.

Boston Red Sox Odds to win the AL Pennant 8-1 World Series 14-1

Do not look now but Boston is back on track and have steam rolled their way back into the AL East divisional race. The Red Sox have won eight out of their last 10 games and six straight. At 26-15 they have one of the best home records in the AL and are only one game in back of the Yankees for the lead. Their overall pitching has been fairly average as they are tied with Toronto for eighth in the AL with a team ERA of 4.22. On the other hand, their bats have been downright explosive as they lead the Major League in runs scored with 390; an average of 5.49 per game. They are second in the AL in team hitting with a batting average of .278.
