MLB American League Power Rankings

MLB American League Power Rankings- July 26th

The 2010 Major League Baseball’s second half of the regular season is well underway and after almost 100 games of action some teams continue to make a statement they hope to carry right through to the postseason while some others have dug themselves a hole they probably will not be able to climb out of.

All 14 American League teams started the season dreaming of making it all the way to this year’s World Series, but in reality there are only a handful of teams that actually still have a chance. Here is a look at my top four teams in the AL through the third week of July with their updated odds to win the Pennant as well as the World Series.

New York Yankees Odds to Win the NL Pennant 11/10 World Series 11/5

New York is 7-3 in its last 10 games and has the best record in baseball at 62-35. This past weekend the Yankees took three out of four from Kansas City to maintain a three game lead over Tampa Bay and an eight game lead over Boston in the East. Despite some injuries to a few key starters New York is ranked fifth in the AL with a team ERA of 3.96. The Yankees’ bats have also got the job done as they are ranked fourth in the league with a team batting average of .274. Their 533 total runs scored, an average of 5.40 per game is the best in baseball.

Texas Rangers Odds to Win the NL Pennant 4/1 World Series 8/1

In a crucial division series, Texas won three out of four games against the Angels this past weekend to open up a seven game lead in the West, the largest of any of the six division races. The Rangers are now 58-41 overall and 7-3 in their last 10 games. They are ranked third in the AL with a team ERA of 3.84. Showing excellent balance, the team is tied for second in the league with a batting average of .278. Their 503 runs scored rank them third in the AL.

Tampa Bay Rays Odds to Win the NL Pennant 7/2 World Series 7/1

Almost matching New York win for win over the past 10 games, Tampa Bay is currently 59-38, three games back in the East and at 33-18, has the best road record in baseball. All season long the Rays pitching has kept them in the race as they lead the AL with a team ERA of just 3.70. They are ranked 11th in the league with a team batting average of .256, but their 497 total runs scored rank them fourth.

Chicago White Sox Odds to Win the NL Pennant 7/1 World Series 15/1

Chicago has cooled after a blistering June, going 4-6 since the All-Star break and 1-3 in its last four. With an overall record of 53-44, the White Sox still have a one game lead over Minnesota and a two game lead over Detroit in the Central. As a team their pitching is ranked sixth in the AL with a 3.99 ERA. Their hitting has been middle of the road as well as they are currently ranked eighth in team batting average (.258) and runs scored (435).
