MLB American League Power Rankings

MLB American League Power Rankings- August 2nd

The 2010 Major League Baseball’s regular season is headed for the home stretch and after 100 + games of action some teams have put themselves in great position to make it to the postseason while some others have dug themselves a hole they probably will not be able to climb out of.

Each of the 14 American League teams started the season dreaming of making it all the way to this year’s World Series, but in reality there are only a handful of teams that actually still have a chance. Here is a look at my top four teams in the AL as we begin the month of August with their updated odds to win the Pennant as well as the World Series.

New York Yankees Odds to Win the NL Pennant 11/10 World Series 11/5

New York lost two out of three games to Tampa Bay over the weekend, cutting its lead in the AL East over the Rays to just one game. The Yankees have gone 6-4 in their last 10 games and still have the best record in baseball at 66-38. Their pitching has hung in there as they are ranked fourth in the AL with a team ERA of 3.86. They are ranked fifth in the league in hitting with a .260 team batting average. They lead the AL in total runs scored with 563.

Texas Rangers Odds to Win the NL Pennant 4/1 World Series 8/1

Texas currently has the biggest division lead in baseball as it is 61-44 overall, eight games in front of Los Angeles in the AL West. The Rangers have won six out of their last 10 games while the Angels have gone 3-7 over the same stretch. The Rangers are perhaps the most balanced team in the Majors as they are ranked third in the AL in pitching with a team ERA of 3.77 and third in hitting with a team batting average of .276. Their 524 runs scored rank them fifth.

Tampa Bay Rays Odds to Win the NL Pennant 7/2 World Series 7/1

Tampa Bay refuses to go away in the AL East as it continues to battle New York every step of the way. After taking two out of three games at home to take their record to 65-39, the Rays closed the gap with New York to just a game and lead Boston in the AL wildcard race by 5 ½ games. Their pitching continues to shine as they lead the AL with a 3.60 team ERA. Their bats have provided excellent run support as they are ranked third in the league with 526 runs scored despite being ranked 11th in hitting with a team batting average of .254.

Chicago White Sox Odds to Win the NL Pennant 7/1 World Series 15/1

Despite the fact that Minnesota has won eight straight games, Chicago still has a ½ game lead in the AL Central with an overall record of 59-45. The White Sox continue to play well, winning seven out of their last 10. Their pitching has remained solid as they are ranked fifth in the AL with a team ERA of 3.90. Their hitting has been average as they are ranked seventh in the league with a .262 team batting average and eighth in runs scored with 479.
