MLB American League Power Rankings

MLB American League Power Rankings- August 9th

The 2010 Major League Baseball’s regular season is headed for the home stretch and after 110 plus games of action some teams are making a statement they are trying to carry right into the postseason while some others have dug themselves a hole they will most likely not be able to climb out of.

Each of the American League’s 14 teams started the season dreaming of making it all the way to this year’s World Series, but in reality there are only a handful of teams that actually still have a chance. Here is a look at my top four teams in the AL after the first week of August with their updated odds to win the Pennant as well as the World Series.

New York Yankees Odds to Win the AL Pennant 3/2 World Series 12/5

New York is just 5-5 in its last 10 games, but has a chance to make it three in a row over Boston with a win today. At 69-41, the Yankees still have the best record in the Major Leagues and lead Tampa Bay in the AL East by 2 ½ games. Their pitching staff continues to hang tough as they are ranked fifth in the AL with a team ERA of 3.87. They are also ranked fifth in hitting with a team batting average of .269. The main strength of this team has been their ability to produce runs as they lead the league in total runs scored with 591.

Texas Rangers Odds to Win the AL Pennant 5/2 World Series 5/1

Despite losing two out of three games to Oakland over the weekend, Texas still lead the A’s by 7 ½ games in the West. The Rangers are 5-5 in their last 10 and have an overall record of 64-47. As a team they continue to be extremely balanced as they are ranked third in AL in both pitching and hitting. The Rangers currently have a team ERA of .378 and a team batting average of .274. Their 552 runs scored is tied for fourth best in the AL.

Tampa Bay Rays Odds to Win the AL Pennant 5/2 World Series 5/1

Tampa is in the midst of a five game losing streak, one of its worst stretches of the season. The streak started when the Rays lost the final two of a four game series with Minnesota and were swept in three by Toronto over the weekend. They are now 67-44 and 2 ½ games out of first in the East. Their pitching  staff has a team ERA of 3.66; tied with Oakland as the best in the AL. They have fallen to 12th in the AL in hitting with a team batting average of .250, but are still ranked third in runs scored with 555.

Chicago White Sox Odds to Win the AL Pennant 15/2 World Series 15/1

After winning three out of four games with Detroit last week, Chicago lost two out of their first three games against Baltimore with Game 4 scheduled for today. The White Sox are currently 63-48 and have a ½ game lead over Minnesota in the Central. With a team ERA of 3.84, their pitching staff is ranked fourth in the AL. Their .263 team batting average is ranked seventh in the league while their 510 runs scored rank them eighth.
