MLB American League Power Rankings

MLB American League Power Rankings- August 16

The 2010 Major League Baseball’s regular season is headed for the home stretch and after almost 120 games of action some teams are making a statement they are trying to carry right into the postseason while some others have dug themselves a hole they will most likely not be able to climb out of.

Each of the American League’s 14 teams started the season dreaming of making it all the way to this year’s World Series, but in reality there are only a handful of teams that actually still have a chance. Here is a look at my top four teams in the AL after the second week of August with their updated odds to win the Pennant as well as the World Series.

New York Yankees Odds to Win the AL Pennant 3/2 World Series 12/5

New York has struggled a bit in the month of August losing eight of its last 14 games and splitting its last three series. Despite this recent down turn the Yankees still have the best record in baseball at 72-45 but their lead over Tampa Bay in the East is down to just one game. Their pitching has remained steady as they are ranked fourth in the AL with a 3.84 team ERA. Their .268 team batting average rank them fifth and they lead the American League with 617 runs scored.

Texas Rangers Odds to Win the AL Pennant 5/2 World Series 5/1

Texas continues to win enough games to maintain an 8 ½ game lead over Los Angeles in the AL West. The Rangers are 6-4 in their last 10 and have an overall record of 67-49. They are coming off a two games to one series win over Boston this past weekend. Texas is ranked third in the AL in pitching with a team ERA of 3.81. Its .276 team batting average is second best in the AL and the Rangers 580 runs scored rank them eighth.

Tampa Bay Rays Odds to Win the AL Pennant 5/2 World Series 5/1

With series wins over Detroit and Baltimore this past week, Tampa Bay is just a game behind the Yankees in the East and leads Boston in the wildcard race by five games.  At 35-22 the Rays still have the best road record in baseball and are 71-46 overall. Pitching remains their strong suit as they are ranked second in the AL with a 3.62 team ERA. They are ranked 11th in hitting with a .251 team batting average but are tied for third in runs scored with 581.

Minnesota Twins Odds to Win the AL Pennant 10/1 World Series 22/1

After winning eight of its last 10 games including its last four, Minnesota has opened up a three game lead over Chicago in the AL Central. The Twins took two out of three from the White Sox last week and beat Oakland three straight times over the weekend. Their pitching remains solid as they are ranked fifth in the AL with a team ERA of 3.86. They lead the American League in hitting with a .281 team batting average and are tied for third in runs scored with 581.
