MLB American League Power Rankings

MLB American League Power Rankings- September 7

The 2010 Major League Baseball’s regular season has entered the home stretch and with less than 30 games left to play, a couple teams are already gearing up for a long run in the postseason while most of the other teams are already relegated to making plans for next year.

Each of the American League’s 14 teams started the season dreaming of making it all the way to this year’s World Series, but in reality there are only a handful of teams left that actually still have a chance. Here is a look at my top four teams in the AL after the first few days of September with their updated odds to win the Pennant as well as the World Series.

New York Yankees Odds to Win the AL Pennant 3/2 World Series 12/5

New York looks like it is in postseason form, winning just about every series it has played over the past several weeks. The Yankees are 8-2 in their last 10 games and have opened up a 2 ½ lead over Tampa Bay in the AL East. They continue to have the best record in baseball and are now 86-51 overall. Their 3.88 team ERA and .270 team batting average are each ranked fifth in the AL. They lead the league in runs scored with 743.

Tampa Bay Rays Odds to Win the AL Pennant 13/5 World Series 5/1

A 5-5 slide by Tampa Bay over the past 10 games has the team trailing the Yankees by 2 ½ games in the division, but the Rays still have a comfortable seven game lead over Chicago in the wildcard race. They are 83-53 overall and have the best road record (40-27) in the Major Leagues. They are ranked second in the AL with a team ERA of 3.73. While their .250 team batting average ranks them 11th in the league, their 674 runs scored rank them third.

Minnesota Twins Odds to Win the AL Pennant 9/1 World Series 18/1

Minnesota has won eight of its last 10 games to maintain a 3 ½ game lead over the White Sox in the AL Central. The Twins are coming off a three game sweep of Texas over the weekend that ran their record to 80-57. They remain solid in all phases of the game as their 3.86 team ERA rank them fourth and their .278 batting average is the best in the AL. The Twins are ranked fourth in runs scored with 666.

Texas Rangers Odds to Win the AL Pennant 12/5 World Series 19/4

Despite only winning three of its last 10 games, Texas still has an eight game lead over Oakland in the AL West. The Rangers have the worst record (75-61) of any division leader in baseball, but has the largest lead of any division race. They have fallen to seventh in the AL in pitching as their team ERA is now 3.97. Hitting remains their strength as the Rangers are still second in team batting average at .275 and are fifth in runs scored with 658.
