MLB American Power Rankings – April 26, 2010

The 2010 Major League Baseball regular season is underway and after three weeks of action some teams are beginning to make a statement while some others are off to a much slower start than expected. All 14 American League teams have a dream of making it all the way to this year’s World Series, but in reality there are only a handful of teams that actually have a chance. Here is a look at my top four teams in the AL after week three and their currents odds to win the Pennant and the World Series.

Tampa Bay Rays Odds to win the AL Pennant 11-2 World Series 11-1

Tampa Bay continues to look impressive, going 8-2 in their last 10 games. After sweeping Boston four straight, they took two out of three from Chicago (White Sox) and Toronto to take their record to 14-5, 1 ½ games ahead of New York in the East. Both the starting rotation and the bull pen are off to a good start as they are currently ranked second in the AL with a team ERA of 3.21. Matt Garza and David Price are each off to 3-1 start. Offensively they currently rank fifth in the AL with a team batting average of .259. Carl Crawford has led the way with a .319 average including 23 hits and 12 RBI’s.

New York Yankees Odds to win the AL Pennant 2-1 World Series 14-5

New York continues to play consistent ball winning five of their first six series. They finally lost one when the LA Angels took two out of three over the weekend. They are currently 12-6 overall and 7-3 in their last 10. Their pitching has been effective but not spectacular as they are currently ranked 5th in the AL with an ERA of 3.72. Andy Pettitte and A.J. Burnett have led the way with a combined 5-0 start. They have a team batting average of .265 ranking them fourth and have scored 96 runs, ranking them third in the AL. Robinson Cano leads the team with 25 hits, 14 RBI’s and five home runs.

Minnesota Twins Odds to win the AL Pennant 14-1 World Series 30-1

Minnesota leads Detroit in the Central by three games with a record of 13-6. They have won seven out of their last 10. Last week they won two out of three from two teams in their division; Cleveland and Kansas City and have now won all six series they have played. They are fourth in the AL with a team ERA of 3.59. Francisco Liriano leads the way with an ERA of 1.29 in 21 innings of work. They rank third in the AL in hitting with a team average of .270. Michael Cuddyer leads the team with a .325 average including 25 hits and 17 RBI’s.

Oakland Athletics Odds to win the AL Pennant 60-1 World Series 125-1

Oakland’s impressive start continues as they are now 12-8 and have a two game lead over the Angels in the West. After losing two out of three to the Yankees earlier in the week, they bounced back to take two out of three from Cleveland over the weekend. Their team pitching leads the AL with an ERA of just 2.93 which has been a big reason for their early success. Dallas Braden and Justin Duchscherer have combined for a 5-0 start to lead the rotation. They are ranked eighth in the AL in hitting with a team average of .253. They have gotten a decent contribution from a good part of their lineup as four players already having double figure RBI’s.
