MLB Betting – Angels, Tigers meet again in Detroit

While most will be online betting Mayweather Mosley this weekend, warm up for the big fight with Friday’s MLB matchup in Detroit, where the Tigers will welcome the Angels to town after splitting a four-game set in Los Angeles earlier this month.  The two starting pitchers in this game will be looking to bounce back from tough efforts in their last game.

Angels vs Tigers odds – Friday, April 30, 7:05 PM ET

Joel Pineiro (2-2, 3.42) was knocked for six runs on 11 hits over six innings to take the loss as the Angeles fell 7-1 at home to the New York Yankees, striking out a pair of batters while walking one.  Pineiro is back in the American League West, as he spent from 2000 to 2006 in Seattle before heading to Boston and St. Louis, and this outing may have been a blip on the radar.  The 31-year-old righthander met the Tigers for the first time in the last series, and he was on fire, tossing 7.1 innings of scoreless ball with four strikeouts and nine hits as the Angels blanked the Tigers 2-0.  If you’re focused on Saturday’s 2010 Kentucky Derby odds, you may miss a great performance by the Angels’ new thoroughbred.

The Tigers will go with Rick Porcello (1-2, 7.91), who gave up six runs for the second straight outing in an 8-4 loss in Texas, allowing 10 hits with three strikeouts and a walk.  For the second start in a row, Porcello failed to make it out of the fourth inning, and the Tigers were counting on the sophomore pitcher to be the No.2 starter behind ace Justin Verlander, which is maybe too much pressure for a pitcher in their second year.  The 21-year-old righty also pitched in that series against the Angels in the middle of April, and he was pounded for six runs on eight hits in four innings in a 6-5 loss on the road.

The Tigers should be the MLB betting favorites at home, and they’ve split their last 10 home games against the Angels.  Pineiro won’t be afraid at all to go into Comerica Park: in three games, including a pair of starts, he is 3-0 with a 1.45 ERA while holding the Tigers to a .127 average.  He has the experience to bounce back from a bad outing, and we’re not sure that Porcello is ready to shake out of his slump yet.  Remember, Porcello was 1-3 in four starts to kick off his rookie campaign in 2009, and some players are just slow starters, so he should be fine later, he just has too much talent.  However, that won’t matter on Friday.  Look for the Angels to take the first game in this series with a sports betting win on Friday.
