Dodgers Get Second Half Started With Astros

The British Open odds are posted and that’s going to distract a lot of attention from the baseball betting card, but in case you have been too focused on the PGA Tour’s third major of the year, the second half of the MLB season starts on Thursday night for some and continues for everyone on Friday.

The Los Angeles Dodgers, who are the best team in baseball, will look to continue to cruise. They have won seven of their last 10 games and with the mediocre Houston Astros in town, they should win another series. The baseball odds will have them favored to do so in all three contests.

Houston Astros @ Los Angeles Dodgers

The Dodgers have the better pitching matchups in all four games of this Thursday-through-Friday series, which is why they’ll be favored in every contest.

On Thursday, they’ll send Randy Wolf to the mound against Wandy Rodriguez. Rodriguez has pitched worse on the road (4-4, 3.83) than he has at home (4-2, 2.21). Wolf has been a steady starter for the Dodgers this year, posting a 3.45 ERA so far.

Friday’s matchup will pit both aces against each other as Roy Oswalt takes on Chad Billingsley. A lot of baseball wagering picks might side with the Dodgers but keep in mind that Billingsley has struggled recently. He’s given up eight earned runs in 13 innings pitched in July while giving up three home runs.

On Saturday, Clayton Kershaw will take on Mike Hampton and it’s worth noting that Kershaw pitches significantly better at home. Kershaw has a 1.85 ERA at home but that number balloons to 4.41 on the road.

Meanwhile, Sunday’s matchup will pit Russ Ortiz against Hiroki Kuroda. Ortiz has been knocked around lately, giving up 12 earned runs in just 8.2 innings pitched in July. He’ll be in tough against Kuroda, who is a solid back of the rotation starter.

Even so, Kuroda has struggled recently – although his three starts in July have been on the road – giving up 10 earned runs in 11 innings pitched in July. Opposing batters are hitting .233 against him at home versus .248 on the road, so he does tend to pitch better at Dodgers Stadium.
