MLB National League Power Rankings

MLB National League Power Rankings- July 12th

The 2010 Major League Baseball regular season is at the halfway point and after the first 80 plus games of action some teams have made an early statement they hope to carry right through the second half while some others have dug themselves a hole they may not be able to climb out of.

All 16 National League teams started the season dreaming of making it all the way to this year’s World Series, but in reality there are only a handful of teams that actually still have a chance. Here is a look at my top four teams in the NL at the All-Star break along with their updated odds to win the Pennant as well as the World Series.

Atlanta Braves Odds to Win the NL Pennant 3/1 World Series 7/1

After taking two out of three from both the Phillies and the Mets this past week, Atlanta has opened up a four game lead over New York in the NL East with Philadelphia 4 ½ games behind. The Braves are 52-36 overall and have the best record in the National League. With a team ERA of 3.60, they are ranked fourth in the NL. Their .260 team batting average ranks them seventh and their 406 total runs scored rank them sixth.

San Diego Padres Odds to Win the NL Pennant 10/1 World Series 28/1

San Diego is 5-5 in their last 10 games, but they still have a two game lead over Colorado and Los Angeles in the NL West. The Padres are 51-37 overall and the only other team in the NL with 50 or more wins. Pitching has undoubtedly been the strength of this team as they lead the Majors with an ERA of 3.25. From a hitting standpoint things are not nearly as impressive. They are ranked 14th in NL with a team batting average of .250 and their 376 runs scored ranks them 12th.

New York Mets Odds to Win the NL Pennant 5/1 World Series 12/1

New York continues to battle to keep pace with the Braves as they find themselves four games back at the midway point of the season. They are 4-6 in their last 10 games and 48-40 overall. The Mets pitching has been solid as they are ranked fifth in the NL with a 3.76 team ERA. Their bats have been a bit less reliable as they are ranked ninth in the league with .260 team batting average and 396 total runs scored; an average of 4.5 per game.

Cincinnati Reds Odds to Win the NL Pennant 15/2 World Series 25/1

Despite losing six of their last 10, including four straight losses to Philadelphia to close out the first half, Cincinnati still leads St. Louis by a game in the NL Central with an overall record of 49-41. The Reds team ERA of 4.19 ranks them 11th in the NL, but their hitting has helped to offset this less than stellar performance. They lead the NL in both team batting average (.272) and runs scored (437). They are also first in average runs per game with 4.86.
