MLB National League Power Rankings

MLB National League Power Rankings- August 9th

The 2010 Major League Baseball’s regular season is headed for the home stretch and after 110 plus games of action some teams are making a statement they are trying to carry right into the postseason while some others have dug themselves a hole they will most likely not be able to climb out of.

Each of the National League’s 16 teams started the season dreaming of making it all the way to this year’s World Series, but in reality there are only a handful of teams that actually still have a chance. Here is a look at my top four teams in the NL after the first week of August with their updated odds to win the Pennant as well as the World Series.

Atlanta Braves Odds to Win the NL Pennant 3/1 World Series 13/2

Atlanta has won six of its last 10 games including taking three out of four from the Giants over the weekend, but only leads Philadelphia in the NL East by two games after the Phillies won seven out its last 10. The Braves are now 64-47 overall and an MLB best 39-15 at home. Pitching has remained solid as Atlanta is ranked fourth in the NL with a team ERA of 3.50. The Braves are ranked eighth in the NL in hitting with a team batting average of .258. Their 504 runs scored rank them sixth in the league.

Cincinnati Reds Odds to Win the NL Pennant 8/1 World Series 20/1

After sweeping the Cubs in three straight games over the weekend, Cincinnati has now won eight of its last 10 to open up a two game lead over St. Louis in the Central division. The Reds are 64-48 on the year and have one of the best road records in the league at 31-25. With a 3.98 team ERA, Cincinnati’s pitching is ranked eighth in the NL. The Reds bats continue to drive this team as they are the top ranked team in the NL with a .273 team batting average and 554 total runs scored, an average of 4.95 per game.

San Diego Padres Odds to Win the NL Pennant 8/1 World Series 20/1

San Diego split a four game series with the Dodgers last week and lost two out of three to the Diamondbacks over the weekend, but still has a two game lead over San Francisco in the West. The Padres are 4-6 in their last 10 and have an overall record of 64-46. Their pitching continues to remain the best in the NL with a league leading 3.28 team ERA. Their bats on the other hand have not been nearly as good as the Padres are ranked 14th in the NL with a team batting average of .250. They are ranked 11th in the league in runs scored with 480.

Philadelphia Phillies Odds to Win the NL Pennant 7/2 World Series 15/2

Philadelphia has battled its way back into the top four after winning seven of its last 10 games to close the gap in the East with the Braves to just two games. The Phillies completed a three game sweep of the Marlins last week and took two out of three from the Mets over the weekend. The addition of Roy Oswalt to the pitching staff should only help to improve their current team ERA of 3.94; sixth best in the NL. Despite some injury issues, the Phillies are ranked fifth in the NL with a team batting average of .261 and ranked fourth in runs scored with 524.
