MLB National League Power Rankings

MLB National League Power Rankings- August 16

The 2010 Major League Baseball’s regular season is headed for the home stretch and after almost 120 games of action some teams are making a statement they are trying to carry right into the postseason while some others have dug themselves a hole they will most likely not be able to climb out of.

Each of the National League’s 16 teams started the season dreaming of making it all the way to this year’s World Series, but in reality there are only a handful of teams that actually still have a chance. Here is a look at my top four teams in the NL after the second week of August with their updated odds to win the Pennant as well as the World Series.

Atlanta Braves Odds to Win the NL Pennant 3/1 World Series 13/2

Atlanta is 9-5 in the month of August and continues to hold off Philadelphia in the NL East. The Braves are 68-49 overall and have a two game lead over the Phillies. Last week they took two out of three games from both Houston and Los Angeles. Their pitching continues to be dominant as they are ranked second in the NL with a team ERA of 3.44. The Braves are ranked ninth in the league in hitting with a team batting average of .257 and seventh in runs scored with 535.

Cincinnati Reds Odds to Win the NL Pennant 8/1 World Series 20/1

After getting swept by the Cardinals in three straight games this past week, Cincinnati responded by taking three straight from the Marlins over the weekend to regain a one game lead over St. Louis in the NL Central. The Reds are now 7-3 in their last 10 games and 67-51 overall. With a team ERA of 3.93, Cincinnati is tied for sixth in the NL. They have a team batting average of .271 which is still tops in the National League. The Reds are also No.1 in runs scored with 576.

San Diego Padres Odds to Win the NL Pennant 8/1 World Series 20/1

San Diego is coming off a three game sweep of Pittsburgh and two games to one series win over San Francisco that has opened up a 3 ½ game lead over the Giants in the NL West. At 69-47, the Padres now have the best record in the National League. Their pitching continues to be the best in the NL with a 3.21 team ERA. With a team batting average of just .251 they are ranked 13th in the NL. Their 508 runs scored rank them 11th.

Philadelphia Phillies Odds to Win the NL Pennant 7/2 World Series 15/2

Philadelphia has won five out of its last seven games to keep pace with Atlanta in the East. The Phillies are now 66-51 and two games back in the division. They are currently tied with the Giants for the wildcard spot in the playoffs. Their pitching continues to improve as they are tied for sixth in the NL with a team ERA of 3.93. Despite having a few of their biggest hitters out of the lineup they are tied for fifth in the league in hitting with a team batting average of .260. They are ranked fourth in runs scored with 552.
