MLB National League Power Rankings

MLB National League Power Rankings- September 7

The 2010 Major League Baseball’s regular season has entered the home stretch and with less than 30 games left to play, a couple teams are already gearing up for a long run in the postseason while most of the other teams are already relegated to making plans for next year.

Each of the National League’s 16 teams started the season dreaming of making it all the way to this year’s World Series, but in reality there are only a handful of teams left that actually still have a chance. Here is a look at my top four teams in the NL after the first few days of September with their updated odds to win the Pennant as well as the World Series.

Atlanta Braves Odds to Win the NL Pennant 3/1 World Series 13/2

Atlanta won three out of four games against the N.Y. Mets last week, but dropped two of three to Florida over the weekend. The Braves are now 79-58 on the year and clinging to a one game lead over Philadelphia in the NL East. Their pitching has been solid as they are ranked third in the NL with a team ERA of 3.54. The Braves .261 team batting average rank them sixth in the league and their 648 runs scored rank them second.

Cincinnati Reds Odds to Win the NL Pennant 11/2 World Series 15/1

Despite losing two out of three games to St. Louis over the weekend, Cincinnati continues to pound out the wins overall, winning seven of its last 10. The Reds now have the best record in the NL at 79-57 and a comfortable seven game lead over the Cardinals in the Central. They are ranked ninth in the league with a 4.04 team ERA, but are still first in team batting average (.272) and total runs scored (679).

Philadelphia Phillies Odds to Win the NL Pennant 13/4 World Series 7/1

Philadelphia has won eight of its last 10 games to cut the Braves lead in the East down to a game. The Phillies are now 78-59 overall and have a two game lead over San Francisco in the wildcard race. Their pitching has been steady as they are ranked sixth in the NL with a 3.76 team ERA. They have a .255 team batting average that ranks them 11th in the league, but their 630 runs scored ranks them fifth.

San Diego Padres Odds to Win the NL Pennant 7/1 World Series 15/1

A few weeks ago San Diego had a healthy lead in the NL West but after losing 10 games in a row, finds itself just one game ahead of San Francisco and four ahead of Colorado in a suddenly tight race for the division title. While the Padres’ team ERA of 3.37 is still the best in the NL, they are tied for 13th in team batting average (.249) and are 12th in runs scored (583). In their 10 game slide they have only managed to score an average of 2.3 runs per game.
