Pitching Probables: Cole Hamels vs. Johnny Cueto

Everything is coming up Cole Hamels these days. He has a beautiful wife, his team is back in the playoffs and there is almost no pressure on him and no one questioning him. That is what a 2-0 series lead and a stellar second half will do for you. Only three times since July 1 has Hamels given up more than three runs in a game and while Halladay is stealing headlines lets not forget how good Hamels was in 2008 on the Phillies run to the World Series. Did I mention that in his lone start against Cincy this year he shut them out for 7 plus…put it all together and it spells sweeparoo Reds fans. Sorry!

I hope for the sake of Reds fans that today’s game has a little bit of life. This year’s team may not be the Big Red Machine but it is a good team, although you would never know it by the way they lost games one and two. Johnny Cueto takes the hill in game and even though it is his first playoff start he has the luxury of being at home, where he was very effective while beating the Phillies back in June. He seems to pitch better at home and with the crowd behind him we should have a game. The Reds need to jump out early again if they want to extend the series and need some production from their best veteran hitter Scott Rolen (no hits through two games).

Prediction: The Phillies complete the sweep in the best game of the series. The Reds fight to the end but it isn’t enough.

Cincinnati is +122 and the O/U is 7.5

Score Prediction:
Philadelphia Phillies – 5
Cincinnati Reds – 4
