This World Series rematch pits two teams heading in different directions. The Phillies are really struggling and have fallen out of first place while the surging Yankees have caught the Rays for supremacy in the AL East. It is amazing how the Phillies offense has stagnated. From top to bottom the Philly lineup is really struggling. A week is one thing but this has been the better part of a month now. They are currently 18th in the majors in scoring which is not enough even though they are in the top 10 in ERA. Facing the Yankees is hardly a tonic for reversing their fortunes even though AJ Burnett has been hit hard in his last two outings.

The Yankees had won 7 of ten entering the series including a sweep of the lowly Astros after interleague play resumed. They of course beat the Phillies in last year’s world series but dropped two of three during the season in a series at Yankee Stadium. The Yankees are the top offensive club in the majors which is surprising given the pitiful start of the season by Mark Teixeira. Robinson Cano and Nick Swisher have been picking up the slack with Cano just about the hottest thing going these days. With these pitchers on the hill it could be a real slugfest. Kendrick is far from an ace and the Yankees had no problem getting to Phils ace Roy Halladay in the series opener.

The odds makers have the Yanks as 1-1/2 favorites with a run total of 10.

Prediction: I am looking for an offensive explosion for Philadelphia in an upset effort. Ryan Howard goes yard and Chase Utley does too.
