World Series Odds Pit Surging Cardinals Against Rangers

Spread: St. Louis Cardinals -1.5
Money Line: St. Louis Cardinals -119 / Texas Rangers +109
Over/Under: 7.5

This time last month the St. Louis Cardinals clung desperately onto the MLB odds board as the National League wild card playoff berth dangled elusively in the distance. Fast forward to the start of the World Series this week and they’re back within reach of a championship for the first time since 2006.

Between an impressive September run which saw them pry the final postseason berth away from the Atlanta Braves, and a performance in the playoffs through which they’ve ousted the Philadelphia Phillies and Milwaukee Brewers, the Cards are back in the picture in a big way.

The autumn success has paid off considerably for fans keen enough to have put money on the wild card club early in the postseason. Now of course, with the field down to two, St. Louis’ World Series betting line is a lot more optimistic.

With the Rangers coming off a big ALCS victory over the Detroit Tigers, the World Series won’t exactly come easy for St. Louis, but it’s not unreasonable to say the NL squad’s biggest threat (the long-time favored Phillies) is already in the ground.

When the two teams clash at Busch Stadium this Wednesday it will mark the beginning of baseball’s greatest event – and the second consecutive such event that Texas has been a part of.

The odds makers have the St. Louis Cardinals as a -1.5 point favorite with an run total of 7.5.
