Boston’s powerful lineup continued to sputter in Friday night’s 3-1 loss as a 107 road underdog. It was its second straight loss after winning nine of its previous 11 games. The Red Sox are now 64-40 and have a 2.5 game lead over New York in the AL East. They are 33-19 at home this season and 31-21 on the road.

Friday night’s one-run effort was a sharp deviation for a Boston team that leads the Majors with a .280 batting average and 571 runs scored. Adrian Gonzalez leads the Majors in RBI with 87 and is one of four players in this lineup with 60 or more runs batted in.

Andrew Miller is slated to get the start for the Red Sox on Sunday. The left-hander gave up seven runs on nine hits to Kansas City this past Tuesday in a non-decision. He is 4-1 in seven starts this year with a 5.45 ERA.

Chicago continues to chip away at Detroit’s lead in the AL Central with five victories in its last six games. The White Sox are an even 52-52 and three games back in the division heading into Saturday’s Game 2. They are 28-26 on the road and 24-26 at home.

Pitching continues to be Chicago’s strong suit as it is ranked fifth in the AL with a team ERA of 3.64. The White Sox will counter with a left-hander of their own with Mark Buehrle scheduled to get the start on Sunday. He is 8-5 this season with a 3.22 ERA in 20 previous starts. His last time out, he pitched six scoreless innings to notch the win. Buehrle is 6-6 against the Red Sox with an ERA of 4.57.

Friday’s victory was Chicago’s fourth-straight over the Red Sox this season after sweeping a three-game set in Boston in late May. The total has gone ‘over’ in three of the four games.

The odds makers have the Chicago White Sox as a -1.5 point favorite with an run total of 9.5.

Predictions: With Buehrle on the mound to keep Boston’s lineup in check, stick with the White Sox to walk away with the win in the series finale.
