The Cincinnati Reds continue their six-game interleague road trip tonight in Game 1 of a three-game set with the Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field. Game time is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. (ET) and it will be broadcast nationally on ESPN2.

It has been a rough second half of June for Cincinnati with just three wins in its last nine games. It dropped two of three this weekend in Baltimore to fall to 40-39 overall and four games in back of Milwaukee in the NL Central. The Reds are 22-19 at home and 18-20 on the road.

Cincinnati could be without Jay Bruce for tonight’s game as he is listed as questionable with an undisclosed illness. He is tied with Joey Votto for the team-lead in RBI with 49. Staff ‘ace’ Johnny Cueto will be on the mound tonight for the Reds. He has pitched lights-out as of late; giving up just one earned run in his last 21 innings pitched. Cueto is 5-2 on the year with a 1.63 ERA.

Tampa Bay has won eight of its last nine games and is coming off a three-game sweep of Houston this past weekend. The Rays have run their record to 44-34 and are just two games in back of New York in the AL East. They are a MLB-best 26-16 on the road, but an even 18-18 at home.

The trio of Ben Zobrist, B.J. Upton, and Matt Joyce continue to lead the way for Tampa’s offense. They have combined to knock in 119 of the Rays’ 334 runs scored and have hit 30 home runs. Jeremy Hellickson will get the start for Tampa Bay. His last time out against the Brewers, the right-hander gave up two earned runs on three hits in six innings of work, but still got tagged with his third loss in-a-row. He is 7-6 overall this season with a 3.09 ERA.

Prediction: These two teams have not met since the Reds swept a three-game series at home in 2005. This time around, stick with Cincinnati to ride the hot arm of Cueto to grab the early edge in this series with a win on the road.

The odds makers have the Tampa Bay Rays as a -1.5 point favorite with an run total of 7.
