One of the best pitching teams, the Los Angeles Angels, and one of the best hitting teams, the Detroit Tigers, will go head-to-head this weekend in a matchup of potential World Series contenders.

Game three of the four-game series expects to be a high scoring affair, with both pitching staffs toward the end of their rotations.

If pitching is the deciding factor in the game, then the Angels clearly have the upper hand.

Right-hander Dan Haren (10-6) will take the mound for Los Angeles, and has been more than reliable as of late for the Angels.

Haren has an ERA of 3.01 for the year, but has been especially exceptional recently. In his last start, he went 7.2 innings while allowing only one run on three hits. However, his the offense couldn’t back him up and he finished the 3-2 loss to the Cleveland Indians with a 1.17 ERA and 10 strikeouts.

The Tigers will counter with left-hander Duane Below whose performances lately are a polar opposite to Haren’s.

Below was beat up bad by the White Sox in only his second start of his major league career. The 25-year-old has an ERA of 4.66 for the year with only three strikeouts through his last two games and  will need all the help he can get from his offense.

The Tigers have been hitting well all year, but it has yet to be seen if their bats can carry the young pitcher through his rough start.

Detroit’s offense is ranked fourth in batting average and ninth in runs, and Miguel Cabrera is a major reason why.

Cabrera is batting over .300 with 22 home runs and 68 RBIs on the year, and is the leader of the lineup that the rest of his teams look up to.

Meanwhile, the Angels’ offense is, at best average. They are ranked in the middle of the majors in every statistical category, and aren’t well rounded enough to carry the team to victories.

The star of the Halo’s offense is 25-year-old Mark Trumbo, who is just entertain his second year in the majors, and first complete.

Trumbo has looked magnificent with 19 home runs and 53 RBIs, and the sky is the limit for this young first baseman.

The odds makers have the Los Angeles Angels as a -1.5 point favorite with an run total of 6.5.

Matt’s Free Prediction: Angels– The game is likely to a bit lopsided in Los Angeles’ favor because of the pitching matchup. The Tigers’ bats may be some of the best in the league, but the Angels are the best at minimalizing offense with superb pitching.
