NASCAR Coke Zero 400

The 18th Sprint Cup race of the 2010 NASCAR season takes us back to Daytona International Speedway for the Coke Zero 400. The race is set to get underway on Saturday Night, July 3rd at 7:30 (ET).

Last week in New Hampshire, Jimmy Johnson made it two in a row to notch his sixth Sprint Cup point race victory of the year. Kevin Harvick remained in the top spot in the Sprint Cup standings with 2489 points. Harvick and Kyle Busch are the odds-on-favorites to win this week, but there are a few other drivers that might have something to say about that. The following is a preview of the top seven drivers in the Sprint Cup point standings along with their current odds to win this week.

Kevin Harvick 10-1

With a fifth place finish last week, Harvick continues to hold the lead in the point standings with 2489 points. Last year in this race he started 27th and finished 26th. His best finish in this race is ninth; in 2006 when he started 32nd and 2003 when he started 17th. Harvick has seven top 10 finishes at Daytona and won the 500 in 2007. He has two top 10 finishes in this race.

Jimmie Johnson 12-1

Johnson’s win in New Hampshire last week gives him 2384 points on the season, 105 out of the lead. He has never won this race but in 2004 he started 19th and finished second. In 2009 he finished second again after starting third. Johnson has nine top 10 finishes at this track and five in this race. His lone victory at Daytona was in the 500 back in 2006.

Kyle Busch 10-1

After finishing 11th last week, Busch has 2328 points, 161 points back. Last year in this race he started eighth and finished 14th. In 2008, starting from the ninth spot he rallied to win this race for his only victory at Daytona. In 11 career starts here, Busch has four top 10 finishes including three in this race.

Denny Hamlin 12-1

Hamlin finished 14th in New Hampshire and with 2304 points is 185 points in back of Harvick. Last year in this race he started sixth and finished third. In nine career starts at Daytona this was his only top 10 finishes in either of the two races here.

Jeff Gordon 12-1

With a fourth place finish last week, Gordon now has 2302 points, 187 points out of first. Last year in this race he started second and finished 28th. He has won this race three times in the past; 1995 starting third, 1998 starting eighth, and more recently in 2004 starting on the pole. Over all, Gordon has 17 top 10 finishes at Daytona including six victories. He has nine top 10 finishes in this race.

Kurt Busch 15-1

Busch finished third last week and has 2288 points, 201 back. Last year in this race he started fourth and finished fifth. His best effort in this race was a third place finish in both 2006 and 2007 after starting from the 16th position each time. Busch has ten top 10 finishes at this track including five in this race.

Matt Kenseth 20-1

After a 17th place finish at New Hampshire, Kenseth has 2204 points and is 285 points out of first. Last year in this race he started 10th and finished eighth. His best finish in this race was in 2008 when he started 19th and finished third. In his career Kenseth has ten top 10 finishes at Daytona and six in this race. He won the 500 in 2009.
