NASCAR Gillette Fusion ProGlide 500

The 14th Sprint Cup race of the 2010 NASCAR season takes us to Pocono Raceway in Long Pond, PA. for the Gillette Fusion ProGlide 500 set to get underway on Sunday, June 6th at 1:00 P.M. This is the first of two races scheduled at Pocono with the second being on August 1st

Kurt Busch won last week in Charlotte to notch his second Sprint Cup points race victory of the year, while Kevin Harvick remained in the top spot in the Sprint Cup standings with 1898 points. Jimmie Johnson and Denny Hamlin are currently the co-favorites to win this week, but there are a few other drivers that might have something to say about that. The following is a preview of the top seven drivers in the Sprint Cup point standings along with their current odds to win this week.

Kevin Harvick 18-1

Harvick’s nine top 10 finishes in the first 13 races has him atop the leader board with 1898 points. Last year in this race he started from the 24th position and finished the same. His best finish in this race was in 2005 when he started and finished eighth. While he does have five top 10 finishes at this track, 2005 was the only time he finished there in this race.

Kyle Busch 8-1

With a third place finish in Charlotte, Busch now has 1869 points, 29 out of the lead. Last year in this race he started sixth and finished 22nd. His best finish in this race was also in 2005 when he started 38th and finished fourth. In 10 career races at this track he has two top 10 finishes.

Matt Kenseth 20-1

Kenseth remains in third place in the standings with 1781 points, 117 back. Last year in this race he started eighth and finished 16th. His best effort ever in this race was in 2003 when he started 25th and finished third. For his career he has eight top 10 finishes at this track and five in this race.

Jeff Gordon 8-1

After finishing sixth last week Gordon was able to move up two spots in the standings with 1760 points, 138 out of first. Last year in this race he started from the second position and ended up finishing fourth. In his storied career, Gordon has won this race three times; in 2007 after starting 18th, 1997 after starting 11th, and 1996 when he started on the pole. Overall he has 23 top 10 finishes at Pocono.

Denny Hamlin 5-1

Hamlin held his ground last week and is still in the fifth spot with 1732 points, 166 in back of Harvick. Last year in this race he started seventh and finished a disappointing 38th. In 2006 he started from the pole and went on to win the race. It is easy to see why he is one of the favorites given the fact that in only eight career starts at this track he has six top 10 finishes including three wins and two thirds.

Kurt Busch 8-1

With a win last week in the Coca-Cola 600, Busch now has 1726 points, 172 out of first. Last year in this race he started fourth and finished all the way back in 37th place. His best finish in this race was in 2006 when he started second and finished the same. He has nine top 10 finishes at this track including two wins and four seconds. He has three top 10 finishes in this race.

Jimmie Johnson 5-1

After another poor outing last week, Johnson slipped again in the standings and with 1694 points is now 204 out of the lead. Last year in this race he started from the third position and finished seventh. He won this race in 2004 after starting fourth. He actually won both races at Pocono that year. He has 10 career top 10 finishes at this track including six in this race.
