NASCAR Subway Fresh Fit 600 – Preview, Predictions, Odds

The seventh Sprint Cup race of the 2010 NASCAR season takes us to Phoenix International Speedway for the Subway Fresh Fit 600 this Saturday night starting at 7:30 P.M(EST). This is the first of two races scheduled for Phoenix with the next one being the second to last race of the season. Jimmie Johnson has dominated the start of this season with three wins in six races. He is the odds-on-favorite to win again this week, but there are a few drivers that might have something to say about that. The following is a preview of the top seven drivers in the Sprint Cup point standings along with their current odds to win this week.

Jimmie Johnson 3-1

It is easy to see why Johnson is such a heavy favorite to win on Saturday. Phoenix has been very good to him over the years as his four wins at this speedway are the most of any other driver. Last year in this race he started 10th and finished fourth. He won this race in 2008 starting from the pole position. All in all he has won four out of the last five races he has run at this track and has 11 top 10 finishes in his career. He is currently the Sprint Cup points leader with 898.

Greg Biffle 14-1

Biffle has 884 Sprint Cup points, 14 off the lead. Last year in this race he started from the 13th position and ended up finishing 5th. This was his best career effort in this race, but he does have four top 10 finishes at this track including taking second twice. He also has two top 10 finishes in this race.

Matt Kenseth 14-1

With 882 points, Kenseth is only 16 points out of the lead. Last year in this race he started 17th and finished 27th. His best finish ever was in 2006 when he started fourth and finished third. Overall he has six top 10 finishes at this track including a win in 2002 and two top 10’s in this race.

Kevin Harvick 12-1

Harvick currently has 837 Cup points, 61 points back. Last year in this race he had a rough go of it, starting from the 33rd position and finishing 30th. In 2006 he recorded a sweep at Phoenix by winning this race and the one scheduled later in November. In his career he has six top 10 finishes at this track and two in this race.

Jeff Burton 8-1

With 785 total points, Burton is in fifth place, 113 points in back of Johnson. Last year in this race he started 16th and finished 15th. His best finish ever was third in 2005 after starting 20th, but he does have two career victories at Phoenix; in 2001 and 2002 when there was only one race a year here. Overall he has 12 top 10 finishes including three in this race.

Kurt Busch 8-1

Busch currently has 776 points, 122 in back of the lead. Last year in this race he started third and finished third. He won this race in 2005 after starting second and in his career has finished in the top 10 twice. Overall at this track he has eight top 10 finishes.

Jeff Gordon 8-1

After a slow start, Gordon has been climbing back up the standings, and with 773 points is currently 125 back. Last year in this race he started fourth and ended up finishing 25th, completing 311 of the 312 laps. In 2007 he started from the pole position and took the checkered flag in the same position for his first win at this track. In his career he has 14 top 10 finishes including seven in row from 1998- 2004. He has three top 10’s in this race.
