NASCAR Watkins Glen

The 22nd Sprint Cup race of the 2010 NASCAR season takes us Watkins Glen International in New York for the Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips at the Glen. The race is set to get underway on Sunday, August 8th at 1:00 P.M. (ET).

Last week at Pocono, Greg Biffle won his first Sprint Cup race of the season, while Kevin Harvick remained in the top spot in the Sprint Cup standings with 3080 points. Being that this race is on a road course, Tony Stewart and Marcos Ambrose are the odds-on-favorites at 7/2 to win at Watkins Glen, but there are a few other drivers that might have something to say about that. The following is a preview of the top seven drivers in the Sprint Cup point standings along with their current odds to win this week.

Kevin Harvick 12/1

With a fourth place finish last week at Pocono, Harvick holds onto the top spot in the standings with 3080 points. Last year in this race he started 21st and finished 35th. He won this race in 2006 after starting seventh. Harvick has nine career starts at this track, finishing in the top 10 five times.

Jeff Gordon 8/1

Last week’s sixth place finish keeps Gordon second in the standings with 2891 points, 189 back. Last year in this race he started 31st and finished 37th. Gordon is a four-time winner at Watkins Glen. His last victory was in 2001 after starting 13th. Prior to that, he won this race three years in a row from 1997-1999. He also has an additional five top 10 finishes in this race.

Denny Hamlin 20/1

Hamlin continues to consistently finish near the top ending up fifth last week. He now has 2820 points, 260 points out of the lead. Last year in this race, he finished 10th after starting from the third position. His best effort in this race was in 2007 when he started and finished in second place. Hamlin has finished in the top 10 in all four of his races at Watkins Glen.

Jimmie Johnson 8/1

After finishing 10th at Pocono, Johnson is 277 points out of the lead with 2803 total points. Last year in this race he started on the pole but could only manage a 12th place finish. His best finish in this race was in 2007 when he started third and ended up seventh. In eight career races at this track, Johnson has four top 10 finishes.

Jeff Burton 60/1

With an eighth place finish last week, Burton jumped up two spots in the standings with 2757 points, 323 in back of Harvick. Last year in this race he started 30th and finished 38th. His best career effort in this race was in 2001 when he finished second after starting from the 22ndposition. In 16 career races at Watkins Glen, Burton has only been able to finish in the top 10 three times.

Kyle Busch 8/1

Busch managed to hold onto sixth place in the standings despite finishing 23rd last week. He currently has 2724 points, 356 points out of the lead. Last year in this race he started eighth and finished fourth. In 2008 he won this race after starting on the pole. Busch has finished in the top 10 in four of his five races here.

Kurt Busch 25/1

After finishing a disappointing 33rd last week, Busch dropped two spots in the standings with 2722 points, 358 back. Last year in this race he started second and finished seventh which happened to be his best finish ever in this race. In nine career starts at this track, Busch has three top 10 finishes.
