Butler Bulldogs vs Syracuse Orange Preview, Odds & Prediction
The Orange will rely on its zone defense and potent offense led by Wes Johnson and Andy Rautins. They tend to shut down teams that don’t shoot well from the outside. Six-foot-nine Arinze Onuaku’s loss leaves the team more susceptible in the middle, but the team showed against Gonzaga that it can still take care of business if the opponent isn’t shooting the ball well from the perimeter. However, they have had problems getting their big men in foul trouble and that has killed them on a couple of occasions.
The Bulldogs have reached the Sweet 16 for the third time in eight years and haven’t lost since Dec. 22. They will need to be extra sharp when playing the Syracuse zone, and it will be important to knock down as many three-pointers as they can. The teams that have beaten the Orange this year have shot well from the outside. Butler has many different weapons to win games. One is that they commit few turnovers. They also have balanced scoring attack with five different players having led the team in scoring in the last nine games, including defensive specialist Ronald Nored.
The odds makers have the Orange as -7-point favorites.
Look for this one to be close until the Orange open up with a run in the second half to claim a six-point win.
