2009-2010 Elon Season Preview
First-year coach Matt Matheny treks into his position after being an assistant for 16 years in the highly successful Davidson program. He loses the two leading scorers from last season, so rebuilding the Phoenix is in order. He has experienced backcourt players in Josh Bonney, Devan Carter and Chris Long. The key is getting each to pick up his shooting percentage. Long is known as a 3-point marksman, but made only 22 of 83 inside the arc. Adam Constantine showed promise in the post as he shot 57.3 percent from the floor while finishing as the team’s third-best rebounder. Elon was outrebounded by 3.1 per game, so T.J. Douglas and newcomer Brett Ervin need to contribute readily on the glass.
