2010-2011 Fairfield Season Preview

A season after nearly unseating Siena in the MAAC championship, Fairfield appears primed to become the team to beat. Though the Stags lose all-league big man Anthony Johnson, no team has an answer for sophomore point guard Derek Needham, the league’s most dynamic – and arguably most dominating – player. The Stags should get deeper, too, if Yorel Hawkins (knee) and Warren Edney (ankle) return from injuries. However, coach Ed Cooley may be the biggest emerging star of them aLL. His ability to recruit studs like Needham and build depth in the face of constant injury woes has been remarkable. This may very weLL be the season it pays off with an NCAA Tournament berth.
