Kansas vs Boston | Prediction & Pick

Jayhawks don’t want a miracle from Terriers

The Kansas Jayhawks will play the Boston Terriers in a second round game in the NCAA Tournament on Friday in Tulsa. If this were the first step towards the ‘Frozen Four’ instead of the Final Four, the Terriers would be at a significant advantage.

The only time Boston has won a game in any of their previous six tournament appearances was in 1959. Now if this were hockey, they’d be in their true element with legendary coach Jack parker and his five national championships – not to mention four members of the 1980 Miracle on Ice team being BU alumni.

Alas, this is basketball and they will be playing the BU hockey equivalent in the Kansas Jayhawks. This will be the 22nd consecutive tournament appearance for KU, which won the national championship just three seasons ago in 2008. These Jayhawks won both the regular season and conference tournament championships in the Big 12 conference.

Kansas finished fifth in the country in scoring (82.4 PPG), 19th in rebounding (38.6 RPG), second in assists (17.9 APG), and were the top shooting team in the nation with a field goal percentage of 51.4%.

The Jayhawks attack features the wonder twin powers of the Morris brothers. Marcus Morris finished as the team’s leading scorer at 17.3 points per game, and was second in the Big 12 with a 58.7 percent field goal percentage. The only player in the league better in shooting was his brother Markieff, who made 60.1 percent of his shots from the floor. Markieff also led the conference in rebounds with 8.2 per contest.

The Terriers offense relies on John Holland, who averaged an America East leading 19.2 points per contest. Darryl Partin (14.5 PPG) and Jake O’Brien (10.9 PPG) also can contribute offensively.

The odds makers have the Kansas Jayhawks as a -22.5 point favorite with an over/under of 136.

Too much size and speed for the Jayhawks means a solid opening victory – unless you see the Zamboni come out before the game, and then all bets are off.
