Last meeting: Kentucky won by two last season at home, 68-66.

Kentucky is off to a good start.  They ran into a juggernaut against Connecticut in Maui but have won all of their other games so far.  Freshmen Terrence Jones and Brandon Knight are playing very well leading the team in scoring, rebounding and assists between them.  One thing that is obvious in the early going is that this team is not nearly as deep as a year ago.  Not being able to use Enes Kanter is a factor for sure, but they just don’t have the variety of scoring options or size that last year’s team did.  Still this is a very good team that could certainly win the SEC.  Jones and Knight are already one of the better duos in America.

The Tar Heels are at it again.  I knew their preseason ranking was too high and they are stumbling into this one.  They haven’t beaten anybody yet and Harrison Barnes has been a massive disappointment.  Unfortunately they were expecting him to be the second coming of Michael Jordan or Jerry Stackhouse or Vince Carter.  Heck even Dante Calabria would do at this point.  He is shooting an absolutely awful 33% thus far but he has to get better right.  The lone bright spots have been upfront where Tyler Zeller and John Henson have produced some numbers.  They are long but not very strong so I think Kentucky will be OK.

The odds makers have the North Carolina Tar Heels as a -1 point favorite with an over/under of 146.

Prediction:  Winning at the Dean Dome is never easy but I like Kentucky here.  Jones and Knight will be the two best players on the floor unless Barnes has a superman like effort.  It should be another close game between the these college basketball superpowers.

Score:  Kentucky 77 – North Carolina 74
