2010-2011 Long Beach State Season Preview

After underachieving through most of regular season play, the 49ers played well enough to get to within a couple of jumpers – their own and UC Santa Barbara’s – of beating the Gauchos in the Big West final in Anaheim and getting a slot in the NCAA Tourney last season. If all the pieces are in sync – and, with five of the top six scorers back, there are a lot of them – the 49ers will be capable of leap-frogging the Gauchos and Pacific in the standings. They need a bounce-back season out of Larry Anderson, who was all-conference as a freshman two years ago, but struggled (thumb and foot injuries that impacted his play) as a sophomore. Casper Ware is one of the quickest, and best, point guards in the region.
