vs.

St. Johns (13-8)  vs UCLA (15-7)
Saturday, February 5, 2011 at 1:00 PM EST on CBS

Last meeting: St. Johns beat UCLA 71-55 back in 2004.

You can never be too sure what you are going to get from St. Johns.  Even though they are a very experienced and relatively deep team they can be very streaky.  Even from game to game they can keep you guessing as they followed up their beatdown of Duke last Saturday with a clunker of a win against Big East alsoran Rutgers (by 2).  This is a big game for their coach Steve Lavin as he returns to the West Coast for the first time with his new gig.  You can bet he will do everything in his power to try and stick it to his former employers and St. Johns is good enough to help him do so.  Sadly they are also capable of putting up a stinker and losing by 20 as well.  They haven’t been making anybody bank this year with with 8-12 ATS record.

UCLA can be pretty maddening too these days…they just have a better track record and better top end talent with forwards Reeves Nelson and Tyler Honeycutt.  Since PAC 10 play started they have been very solid and they have won 6 of their last 7.  They have also been good at home just not for oddsmakers (5-7-1 ATS).  This is another team (like UNC) that is hard to back because just when think they have turned the corner they go and lose to Montana, by 9, as 11 point favourites, at home.  To keep your sanity you are better watching this one to see what local celebrities might be courtside because making money off the Bruins these days take a very sharp eye.

The current line on this one is UCLA -4.   I really think this game could go either way but if you are convinced UCLA would win their is value here.

Prediction: If I have to choose I will take a shot with St. Johns producing the upset…but it will be close with local Red Storm Dwayne Polee figuring prominently in the action.

Score:  St. Johns 66 – UCLA 64
