Eleven of Middleton’s points came in overtime, providing the second wind Texas A&M needed for its 13th straight win. Down by one, Middleton converted a layup with 34 seconds remaining, after grabbing it from Marcus Denmon. The one-man show made three free throws to grow the lead to 91-87 in overtime. The Aggies are a defensive minded team and grab 39.5 rebounds a game (32nd) and pass often, with 15.4 assists per game (47th).  Scoring wise they are no slouch, averaging 73.8 (84th). Missouri was the first team to score more than 65 against the strong defense.

Meanwhile, the Texas Longhorns grabbed another win against their perennial foes on Saturday with a 66-46 against Oklahoma. It was the third conference loss already for the Sooners. Jordan Hamilton carried the offensive workload with 17 points while freshman Tristan Thompson looked impressive with 15 points and eight rebounds. Eleven of those came in the second half as Texas pulled away. Andrew Fitzgerald was the game’s leading scorer with 18 for the Sooners who are 0-8 on the road this season. It was Oklahoma’s lowest point total of the season as the team missed 10 of their first 13 shots.

The Longhorns have kept opposing defenses in check all season, grabbing 42.3 rebounds per game (4th) while scoring enough to relieve pressure with 78 points a game (29th). Assists wise they average 14.4 (89th) and are solid from the field with a.455 percentage. Hamilton is the play maker with 19.2 ppg, while Thompson has been a surprise with 12.8 ppg and 7.8 rebounds.

Texas is such a strong defensive team right now that it’s hard to go against them. With a strong scoring presence in Hamilton, and the upstart rookie Thompson, the Longhorns are sure to battle to the end as they fall in a close one to the red-hot Aggies.
