2010-2011 UNC Wilmington Season Preview

Seahawks athletic director Kelly Mehrtens reassigned coach Benny Moss 21 games into the season as the Seahawks were 7-14. However, the move failed to provide a spark as UNCW finished 2-8 and the Seahawks continued their slumber near the bottom of the CAA. Mehrtens hopes she has hit a home run with the hiring of Buzz Peterson after his second stint at Appalachian State. Five of Peterson’s top seven returning players are seniors, but UNCW had major defensive deficiencies last season, so the opportunity for immediate success could be minimal. The Seahawks return leading scorer Chad Tomko, but John Fields graduated early and took his services to Tennessee. The ‘Hawks hope to improve on a poor (minus-3.4) turnover margin.
