The ACC kicks off another season on Thursday hoping to improve on what was an uncharacteristically weak season for the Conference in 2010. In fact, no ACC team finished in the Top 15 last year. Despite all of the talk of dissolving and amalgamating, the ACC remains intact and ready to regain its status as a power Conference in NCAA Football. Here is a brief look at some of the games highlighting a packed NCAA Football schedule. Listed pointspreads are provided by BetOnline.com.

vs.

Western Carolina at Georgia Tech (-35) – 7:30 PM ET on ESPN3.com

Two teams that had losing records last season do battle on Thursday night when West Carolina takes on Georgia Tech. Ga Tech Coach Paul Johnson will be going for his sixth straight win over his alma mater but will be doing so without his full arsenal. Suspensions and key injuries could make this game a whole lot closer than the 35 point spread. Despite a 2-9 finish last season, I like West Carolina to take advantage of the holes in Tech’s lineup and for Zac Brinsdale to do just enough for West Carolina to cover the 35 points. Georgia Tech wins but West Carolina makes it closer than most think.

Prediction: Western Carolina +35Bet Now

Odds: Georgia Tech: -35 – Western Carolina : +35

vs.

Wake Forest at Syracuse (-6 ½) – 8:00 PM ET on ESPN3.com

Syracuse is a team that lost a lot of pieces this offseason. Gone is a good part of a defense that ranked 6th in the nation last season and also departed are Running Backs Antwon Bailey and Delone Carter. They are taking on a Wake Forest team that gave up over 36 points per game last season while only scoring 23 on offense. Syracuse is still a decent team with Quarterback Ryan Nassib at the helm and should be able to exploit a Wake Forest team that did not improve a whole lot from their 3 win season a year ago.

Prediction: Syracuse -6.5Bet Now

Odds: Syracuse: -6.5 – Wake Forest: +6.5 Over/Under: 49.5

vs.

Northwestern @ Boston College (-3) – 12:00 PM ET on ESPNU

The Big 10 invades the ACC when Northwestern takes on Boston College on a packed Saturday of NCAA action. Northwestern has to hope that All Big 10 quarterback Dan Persa’s injury woes don’t affect him that much. He and Northwestern are going against a Boston College defense that ranked 19th in the nation last year. Leading rusher Montel Harris is out for BC but Andre Williams should be able to do enough to propel Chase Reddick and BC to victory.

Prediction: Boston College -3Bet Now

Odds: Boston College: -3 – Northwestern: +3 Over/Under: 45

vs.

Appalachian State at #13 Virginia Tech (-25) – 12:30 PM ET on ESPN3.com

Upset minded Appalachian State will be looking to upend the defending ACC Champion Virginia Tech on Saturday – don’t think that it is too far-fetched an idea! Tech proved that anything can happen in college football when they lost to James Madison last year! Appalachian State is no joke. They are a perennial powerhouse in the Southern Conference and have an upset under their belt with a win over Michigan. Appalachian State has an uber-dangerous quarterback DeAndre Presley who passed for 2000 yards and ran for 1000 yards last year along with talented running back Tavaris Cadet and emerging wide out Brian Quick. I certainly like Tech to win this game but as 25 points spread seems a bit much. In a physical, low scoring game, I like Appalachian State to cover in this one.

Prediction: Appalachian State +25Bet Now

Odds: Virginia Tech: -25 – Appalachian State: +25

vs.

James Madison at North Carolina (-17) – 3:30 PM on ESPN3.com

Ready for another underdog pick? North Carolina is a team ripe for the picking! They fired Head Coach Butch Davis just six weeks ago! Brutal timing for a team that will need every edge they can muster this season. Although North Carolina’s rich WR tradition won’t be interrupted this season, I think that James Madison’s dual threat quarterback will be too much to handle. James Madison certainly has a flare for the dramatic – my guess is that it continues on Saturday.

Prediction: James Madison to cover the +17Bet Now

Odds: North Carolina: -17 – James Madison: +17

vs.

Troy at Clemson (-16) – 3:30 PM ET on ESPN3.com

Clemson will look to avenge their worst season in 10 years against a Troy team that has finished with at least a share of the Sunbelt Conference Title over the last five years. Troy has a history of playing up to their competition. Unfortunately for Clemson, high expectations don’t always translate to success on the field. Clemson may win this game but I expect a well rounded Troy team to keep this game close.

Prediction: Troy +16Bet Now

Odds: Clemson: -16 – Troy: +16 Over/Under: 56

vs.

Louisiana-Monroe at #6 Florida State (-29) – 3:30 PM ET on ESPNU

With a ton of hype and expectation, Florida State starts their campaign with an easy test. The only thing that may stand in their way is looking ahead two weeks to their impending showdown with Oklahoma. FSU walks in this game and fine-tunes their new quarterback and new defensive starters.

Prediction: Florida State -29Bet Now

Odds: Florida State: -29 – Louisiana-Monroe: +29 Over/Under: 54

vs.

Liberty at North Carolina State (-29) – 6:00 PM ET on ESPN3.com

Liberty is certainly no cake-walk for NC State – they are favorites to win the Big South this season and they boast four preseason All-Americans. But NC State is a huge step up in competition for this team. NC State had one of the better defenses in the nation last season and fourth year QB Mike Glennon knows this offense well. This should be an easy win of the Pack!

Prediction: North Carolina State -29Bet Now

Odds: North Carolina State: -29 – Liberty: +29

vs.

William & Mary at Virginia (-7) – 6:00 PM ET on ESPN3.com

William & Mary is no joke – one of the second division teams that is a nightmare to handle. But Virginia is a team on the rise – their O-line could be one of the best in the nation and their stud defense from a year ago is largely intact. William & Mary will test Virginia with hard work and talent but it won’t be enough on Saturday.

Prediction: Virginia -7Bet Now

Odds: Virginia: -7 – William & Mary: +7

vs.

Richmond at Duke (-8 ½ ) – 7:00 PM ET on ESPN3.com

This game has offense written all over it largely because of the two quality starting quarterbacks in the game. The edge has to go to Duke’s Sean Renfree who was one of the better ACC passers last year. He, change of pace QB Brandon Connette and a talented receiving corp. will be too much for Richmond.

Prediction: Duke -8Bet Now

Odds: Duke: -8 – Richmond: +8
