The only week 1 loser in the Big Ten was Purdue but I think it is safe to say they had the toughest matchup as well – opening the season at Notre Dame. Its Michigan’s turn to visit the Golden Dome this week but the most anticipated game on the schedule (at least for me) is Miami’s trip to Ohio State. Also on tap this week is an early season rivalry game at Iowa so there is a little bit of everything. Some FCS and some BCS type stuff. In keeping with tradition all games are on Saturday.

vs.

Illinois State @ Northwestern – 12:00 PM ET

Northwestern got the memo that you are supposed to start your season with an FCS cupcake a week late. Better late than never. They will push their record to 2-0 with an easy home victory.

Prediction: Northwestern 35 – Illinois State 7 – Bet Now

vs.

South Dakota @ Minnesota – 12:00 PM ET

Ditto for Minnesota. They were better than I expected in beating a Dasher-less MTSU squad and get another shot at fine tuning their gameplans against a weak opponent…although last week a couple of FCS squads were victorious. Would it really be a shock to see the Gophers lose any game this season?

Prediction: Minnesota 35 – South Dakota 17 – Bet Now

vs.

Michigan State vs. Florida Atlantic – 12:00 PM ET on ESPNU

The Spartans were sharp in beating Western Michigan in the opener and are poised for a season in the middle tier of the Big 10. They are disciplined enough to dispatch with Florida Atlantic with relative ease. They have Notre Dame next week though so the game plan should be pretty vanilla.

Prediction: Michigan State 38 – Florida Atlantic 16 – Bet Now

Odds: Michigan State: -28 – Florida Atlantic: +28 Over/Under: 56

vs.

Western Illinois @ Purdue – 12:00 PM ET

There is nothing better than an FCS opponent after a loss against a rival. Last time the Boilermakers lightened their schedule like this they beat Northern Colorado 42-10. That sounds about right to me.

Prediction: Purdue 42 – Western Illinois 10 – Bet Now

vs.

San Jose State @ #11 Wisconsin – 12:00 PM ET on ESPN

San Jose State has the most difficult start to the season. They were crushed by Alabama last week and will be again this week at Wisconsin. They haven’t played a B10 team since 2002 (they beat Illinois) but unfamiliarity should not be an issue for the Badgers. Be sure to start John Clay for you fantasy fans.

Prediction: Wisconsin 45 – San Jose State 7 – Bet Now

Odds: Wisconsin: -38 – San Jose State: +38 Over/Under: 54

vs.

Michigan @ Notre Dame – 3:30 PM ET on NBC

Love this game between two teams who impressed in Week 1. I think the Wolverines were the more impressive of the two beating a better team (UConn vs Purdue) and flashing an offense reminiscent of vintage West Virginia. The spread on this opened at ND -6 but now it is down to -4. Wish I had played Michigan when it opened and love the SU upset potential here.

Prediction: Michigan 28 – Notre Dame 27 – Bet Now

Odds: Michigan: +3.5 – Notre Dame: -3.5 Over/Under: 53

vs.

Iowa State @ #9 Iowa – 3:30 PM ET on ABC

You don’t usually see rivalry games in week two but we have one here. While they haven’t done much SU in this series the Cyclones usually play better than expected and are 5-1 ATS over the last 6 and a perfect 6-0 ATS for the last 6 at Iowa. Iowa is in no danger of the upset but you might want to pass on this one if you like betting favourites.

Prediction: Iowa 35 – Iowa State 21 – Bet Now

Odds: Iowa: -14 – Iowa State: +14 Over/Under: 45

vs.

#12 Miami (FL) @ #2 Ohio State – 3:40 PM ET on ESPN

Big Ten game of the week with the conference’s best team at home against a ranked opponent. I am just not sold on Pryor which makes it hard for me to back OSU when they are somewhat evenly matched physically. I want to predict the upset but instead I will play it safe and have OSU win by a FG making Miami the easy cover. The spread on this one has already lost a point so get on it quickly.

Prediction: Ohio State 27 – Miami 24 – Bet Now

Odds: Ohio State: -8.5 – Miami: +8.5 Over/Under: 47

vs.

#18 Penn State @ #1 Alabama – 7:00 PM ET on ESPN

Even missing last year’s Heisman trophy winner, Alabama possesses one of the better offenses in the nation. They should have no problem outscoring Penn State and their freshman QB. PSU won’t quit and a late TD will make this look closer than it really was. Great backdoor cover opportunity here.

Prediction: Alabama 33 – Penn State 21 – Bet Now

Odds: Alabama: -12 – Penn State: +12 Over/Under: 44

vs.

Southern Illinois @ Illinois – 7:30 PM ET

Last B10 game of the weekend holds hardly any interest except to die hard Illini fans. This is the best chance they have at winning a game until their October 23 clash with Indiana. I say that only because Southern Illinois is an FCS squad, albeit one that won 11 games last year. They did not play last week while Illinois lost to Mizzou. The spread on this is only a TD…What does that tell you?

Prediction: Illinois 27 – Southern Illinois 20 – Bet Now
