Finally a real weekend of football in the Big Ten…no more pushing around the MAC (sorry Purdue…and Minnesota). Two games featuring ranked teams, including a prime time matchup are the highlight of this week’s card…and it wouldn’t surprise me to see Indiana give Michigan a game, especially if Denard Robinson is more banged up than we know right now. Sadly Ohio State vs. Illinois might be the most lopsided conference game of the year.

vs.

Northwestern @ Minnesota – 12:00 PM

The Wildcats are undefeated and looking to stay that way against the Gophers who beat them last year at Minnesota. The Gophers play has been up and down all season, they might give them a game or they might lose by 25. Either way after the weekend NW will be one win away from being bowl eligible at 5-0.

Prediction: : Northwestern 33 – Minnesota 20 – Bet Now

Odds: Northwestern: -5.5 – Minnesota: +5.5 Over/Under: 54.5

vs.

#2 Ohio State @ Illinois – 12:00 PM ET

Jim Tressel must have been mad about something last week as OSU rang up 73 points against Eastern Michigan. Now we get to play a game of who is better EMU or Illinois. The Illini have the advantage of being at home but not much more other than that. It shouldn’t be as big a margin of victory as last week but the game will be over by halftime.

Prediction: Ohio State 56 – Illinois 9 – Bet Now

Odds: Ohio State: -17.5 – Illinois: +17.5 Over/Under: 50.5

vs.

#19 Michigan @ Indiana – 3:30 PM ET on ESPNU

Big Blue is having a delightful season but they better watch themselves this week. The Hoosiers are no power but with their passing game they can score points (especially against a young secondary like UM’s) and you can bet they are looking for some revenge after last year’s close loss. If Robinson can play the whole game Michigan should win (he is probable right now) but if he can’t go this games gets very interesting. We will have a good sense of where Michigan is at as a program by the result here. Rich Rod needs another few wins to keep the heat off and after Saturday they have a tough month of October.

Prediction: Michigan 38 – Indiana 27 – Bet Now

Odds: Michigan: -10 – Indiana: +10 Over/Under: 65.5

vs.

#11 Wisconsin @ #24 Michigan State – 3:30 PM ET on ABC

It seems like the Spartans start every season 4-0 doesn’t it? Then they have a game against some real competition and it all starts to unravel. This year’s Big Ten opener is against Wisconsin which proved nothing in pounding poor, innocent Austin Peay. The Spartans have won their last two at home against the Badgers and have one of the better schedules in the conference as they miss OSU completely this season. To have a really good year as opposed to a “Humanitarian Bowl good year” they need a victory this week. The Badgers are predictable so coach Dantonio knows what he has to do. He just has to get his volatile club to perform.

Prediction: Michigan State 28 – Wisconsin 27 – Bet Now

Odds: Michigan State: +2 – Wisconsin: -2 Over/Under: 53.5

vs.

#22 Penn State @ #17 Iowa – 8:05 PM ET on ABC

This should be a good one if you like traditional football. Some are calling out Iowa and picking PSU to upset but given their body of work I just don’t see it. QB Robert Bolden is still just a freshman and they haven’t got their running game going – good luck turning that around against the #3 rush defense in the nation (BTW – the Hawkeyes are #1 in overall defense too so passing isn’t much easier). Looking at the history of these two clubs there is even more reason to side with Iowa. They have won 7 of 8 meetings since 2000 and have covered 6 of the last 7 in the series. Nobody thought Iowa would run the table this year but they are not likely to have another loss until they face OSU in the second last week of the season. That game, not this one, should decide the conference championship.

Prediction: Iowa 31 – Penn State 20 – Bet Now

Odds: Iowa: -7 – Penn State: +7 Over/Under: 41
