Last week was a big one in the conference with a few favourites losing unexpectedly. It might not have been a shock to see the Spartans upset Michigan but Penn State and Northwestern losing at home to inferior Illinois and Purdue – I don’t think anybody saw those coming. This week upsets seem unlikely as well but it is possible that home teams Michigan and Wisconsin could upset Iowa and Ohio State. With the return of Michigan these are good times in the Big Ten and they are likely to get better next year with the addition of Nebraska. This weekend the good teams should set themselves up for bigger games down the road.

vs.

Arkansas State @ Indiana – 12:00 PM ET on ESPNU

The Hoosiers really disappointed last week. With their vaunted passing attack they were supposed to challenge Ohio State, at least a little. Instead they were dominated, making Terrelle Pryor look like the second coming with his best throwing day as a Buckeye. Now they have Arkansas State who just might given them all they can handle. The Red Wolves are not a power in the Sun Belt but they are athletic and can throw the ball led by QB Ryan Alpin. This one should be closer than expected.

Prediction: : Arkansas State 35 – Indiana 38 – Bet Now

Odds: Arkansas State: +11.5 – Indiana: -11.5 Over/Under: 66

vs.

Minnesota @ Purdue – 12:00 PM ET on ESPN2

Purdue surprised by beating unbeaten Northwestern last week while Minnesota did not, rolling over against Wisconsin. With three wins so far Purdue needs this one and a couple more to become bowl eligible. A shocker given how bad they have looked at times. With Robert Marve out with injury the Boilermakers turned to freshman Rob Henry. Henry’s passing stats were horrible but he got the victory thanks to some hard running, gaining 132 yards on the ground. Northwestern couldn’t slow him down and Minnesota should have a tough time as well.

Prediction: Minnesota 17 – Purdue 24 – Bet Now

Odds: Minnesota: +5.5 – Purdue: -5.5 Over/Under: 51

vs.

Illinois @ #13 Michigan State – 12:00 PM ET

I was thrilled that the Spartans came through last week. Given the health situation with their coach they are making for the nicest story in the conference so far. Another nice story is that Illnois upset Penn State last week, in Happy Valley. The Illini just dominated Penn State rushing for a surprising 282 yards. They also confounded frosh QB Robert Bolden, a task they will find much more difficult with the more experienced Kirk Cousins. Even though the schedule is in their favour I am still not sure about whether MSU can run the table. But another week within the ranks of the undefeated is likely.

Prediction: Illinois 17 – Michigan State 31 – Bet Now

Odds: Illinois: +7 – Michigan State: -7 Over/Under: 51

vs.

#15 Iowa @ Michigan – 3:30 PM ET on ABC

Game of the week in the conference as far as I am concerned. We will get a good chance to see how Big Blue and Denard Robinson respond to adversity and another look at how good the Iowa defense is. My bet is that Robinson will have an effective but not dominant game while Iowa shows the form that made them a preseason top 10 team. Michigan still has yet to stop anybody this season and Iowa, with their balanced attack, should have no problem scoring enough points to back up their defense. P.S. If Robinson is superb in an upset he jumps back to the top of the Heisman rating…and grab Iowa while the spread is still low.

Prediction: Iowa 34 – Michigan 24 – Bet Now

Odds: Iowa: -3.5 – Michigan: +3.5 Over/Under: 53

vs.

#1 Ohio State @ #18 Wisconsin – 7:00 PM ET on ESPN

Wisconsin is a good team but based on what we have seen so far this shouldn’t really be a game. The Buckeyes have been dominating on both sides of the ball while the Badgers keep forcing us to ask the question – This is a team that some thought was a sleeper national champion? Looking at this game it is a definite advantage being at home at Camp Randall Stadium but it is one that is lost on the Buckeyes – they have won three of the last four at Wiscy. The majority of these games have been close so the spread is an important one to watch. It opened at 4 and today I have seen it at 3.5. An upset is possible but this game is great value on the side of the Buckeyes.

Prediction: Ohio State 34 – Wisconsin 24 – Bet Now

Odds: Ohio State: -4 – Wisconsin: +4 Over/Under: 49
