There is only one undefeated team left in the conference so all eyes will be on Iowa City to see if Michigan State can continue their magical season. The Spartans narrowly escaped last week’s trip to Northwestern and although I am sure they wouldn’t admit it, their sleepy first half performance is probably in part due to them looking ahead to this contest. I think the Spartans can and will win (see more below) and with the points they are an especially strong play as the underdog. The other contests on the conference docket don’t have much juice unfortunately. Although, it will be interesting to see which team, Michigan or Penn State, can solidify themselves at the top of that second tier of conference teams. Rich Rodriguez really needs a rebound and I think he will get it.

vs.

Northwestern @ Indiana – 12:00 PM ET

The Wildcats almost stole the Spartans thunder before losing late. Can they get up off the mat on the road against an Indiana team that moves the ball so well through the air but got spanked by Illinois last week? Both are coming off of disappointing performances and need a victory, for bowl positioning and to restore confidence.

Prediction: Northwestern 31 – Indiana 28 – Bet Now

Odds: Northwestern: -3 – Indiana: +3 Over/Under: 58.5

vs.

Purdue @ Illinois – 12:00 PM ET on ESPN2

There just might be some light at the end of the season for the Illini. At 4-3 they are just a couple wins shy of bowldom facing a Purdue team with little going right these days. Amazingly they haven’t beaten the Boliermakers since 2002 but this team is 3-1 at home and 5-2 ATS this season as they continue to surprise. Purdue is just playing out the string without their best QB, RB and WR.

Prediction: Purdue 10 – Illinois 33 – Bet Now

Odds: Purdue: +17 – Illinois: -17 Over/Under: 41.5

vs.

#5 Michigan State @ #18 Iowa – 3:30 PM ET on ABC

No doubt what the game of the week is this week. Michigan State roared back against Northwestern last week while Iowa suffered disappointment at home against Wisconsin. This game is a true test for handicappers. Every technical angle favours Iowa but Michigan State is perfect this year because they just keep finding ways to win. I think those winning ways will continue but admit it is more feeling than anything else. As a result I am going to pass on this one unless the line moves up to 7. The conference race will be very interesting if Iowa wins with four teams likely with a single loss after this week.

Prediction: Michigan State 27 – Iowa 24 – Bet Now

Odds: Michigan State: +6.5 – Iowa: -6.5 Over/Under: 50.5

vs.

Michigan @ Penn State – 8:00 PM ET on ESPN

This is an interesting contest between a couple of teams trying to figure out where they belong the in the Big Ten pecking order. Big Blue has the luxury of coming off an open week which enabled them to better prepare and heal up star QB Denard Robinson while Penn State was unimpressive beating Minnesota last weekend. The Wolverines had dominated the Nittany Lions until RichRod’s arrival. They have lost the last two but I think are a good bet to break that streak on the road in a national spotlight night game. Robinson gives Michigan the clear edge at QB and has been almost unstoppable this season – even against Iowa until he got hurt.

Prediction: Michigan 38 – Penn State 28 – Bet Now

Odds: Michigan: -3 – Penn State: +3 Over/Under: 52.5

vs.

#11 Ohio State @ Minnesota – 8:00 PM ET on ABC

I can’t imagine why someone thought this should be a prime time game this week. The series history here is dominated by the Buckeyes and most of the time the games are not even close. In fact only once in their current streak of seven wins over the Gophers have the Buckeyes let them come as close as ten points. Ohio State is lying in the weeds in the conference and BCS scenario. If they can win out they will haven beaten some name teams even though they might not be as good as originally considered. Either way they are going to stomp on the Gophers similar to the way they bombed Purdue last week. I hope everyone has a cable package that will allow you to choose another game if this is the one selected for your region.

Prediction: Ohio State 45 – Minnesota 7 – Bet Now

Odds: Ohio State: -25.5 – Minnesota: +25.5 Over/Under: OFF
