Central Michigan at Boston College Preview

At this point in the year it is hard to find compelling non-conference matchups.  There are a few pre-championship game grudge matches like Georgia-Georgia Tech to look forward to but most teams don’t like to break up their conference schedules so I praise both these schools for giving us what I think will be a very entertaining game.

First you have Boston College.  They are 5-3 with a shot of winning their division in a year that looked like it should have come completely off the rails due to coaching and player concerns.  Instead they have used tough D and improving offense to put them in position for another successful season under the radar.  Don’t be surprised if they play in the ACC Championship game…again

For the Chippewas of Central Michigan the season has gone mostly as expected.  They split their two games against the Big 10 and PAC 10 beating Michigan State and losing to Arizona – not bad for a mid-major!  In the MAC they have been rolling wining each game by at least a TD by featuring an offense full of weapons, led by QB Dan Lefevour and WRs Antonio Brown and Bryan Anderson.  They have more than enough firepower to put the Eagles’ strong defense on the ropes…and I think they will.

Lefevour is both good and mobile.  I look for him to break off some nice chunks in the run game as well as hit some home runs to Brown who is also scary on special teams. BC will try and churn out the clock with its strong running game.  They will have success but a couple of stalled drives will be the difference.  The Chippewas will not be intimidated.

Score Prediction

Central Michigan 27

Boston College 20

Current Spread – CMU+5.5 - Obvious I really like CMU grabbing some points here since I think they can pull the upset outright.  Depending on your risk tolerance you can go either way.

News/Notes:

CMU is 5-0 ATS as a road underdog including 2-0 this year (both games against BCS teams)

• CMU is 7-1 ATS this year…second in the nation

• BC won last contest in ’06 31-24 but CMU covered
