2009 Record: 12-2 MAC Record: 8-0 2010 Returning Starters: 12: 6 Offense, 5 Defense, Punter

Coach: Dan Enos (Central Michigan and overall: 1st years)

Offensive Coordinators: Mike Cummings Defensive Coordinators: Joe Tumpkin

2010 Central Michigan Players to Watch: QB Ryan Radcliff, WR Kito Poblah, WR Taylor Bradley, C Colin Miller, WLB Matt Berning, MLB Nick Bellore

2010 Central Michigan Strengths:
The Chips should have astrong offensive line, led by Miller and left guard Jeff Maddux. Poblah, Bradley and tight end David Blackburn should be adecent set of receivers for Ryan Radcliff, who inherits the starting quarterback job. The defense should be super-aggressive.

2010 Central Michigan Weaknesses:
The team’s personality will undergo a significant change under a new quarterback and new head coach Dan Enos, aformer Michigan State assistant. How both handle the pressure could determine whether the Chippewas can repeat as champions of the MAC.

2010 Central Michigan Offense:

Quarterback Dan LeFevour – a sixth-round draft choice of the Chicago Bears – has moved on after helping the Chippewas become a dominant program in the MAC. Coach Butch Jones is gone, too, off to Cincinnati, which lost Brian Kelly to Notre Dame. But new Central Michigan coach Dan Enos will have some offensive weapons to work with, including sophomore quarterback Ryan Radcliff, who turned in a solid spring performance. Radcliff, who saw limited action as LeFevour’s backup last year, has decent size and a fairly quick release that should help him get the ball to the Chips’ solid receivers. The best of the wideout group should be senior Kito Poblah, who caught 53 passes for 681 yards and four touchdowns last season. Poblah has a knack for making clutch catches in key third-down situations. Cody Wilson also returns after hauling in 25 passes a year ago. The X-factor could be tight end David Blackburn, who caught 12 passes in 2009, but could be much more involved this year. The line looks solid. Senior center Colin Miller and senior left guard Jeff Maddux anchor a unit that was the best in the MAC last year. Enos is hoping that senior running back Carl Volny will have a big year. Volny ran for just 390 yards last year, but averaged 4.8 yards per carry.

2010 Central Michigan Defense:

Central Michigan held five opponents to 10 points or less last season, earning a reputation as a hard-hitting, sure-tackling team. While there is some rebuilding to be done, the Chips return linebackers Nick Bellore and Matt Berning, who give the defense personality and continuity. Bellore, the starting middle linebacker, led the Chips with 132 tackles in 2009. He also had 13.5 tackles for loss, three sacks, two interceptions and two forced fumbles. Berning starts on the weak side. He was second on the team with 108 tackles, including 8.5 for loss. Defensive tackle Sean Murnane returns to anchor the line after a decent junior season in which he had 49 tackles, including seven for loss. Much will be expected from free safety Bobby Seay Jr., who returns after recording 60 tackles. Senior cornerback Vince Agnew is also back after recording 35 tackles. Neither had an interception last year.

2010 Central Michigan Special Teams:

The Chips are hoping for a solid season from their kicking game, but much will depend on redshirt freshman Richie Hogan. He takes over the placekicking duties from the departed Andrew Aguila, who connected on 17 of 23 field-goal attempts last year. Brett Hartmann returns to handle the punting duties after averaging only 38.4 yards per kick.

2010 Central Michigan Predictions:

Central Michigan was the dominant team in the MAC a year ago, going 12-2 and undefeated in the conference. Without LeFevour, the offense figures to take a step backward and Central Michigan could fall back to the pack. But if quarterback Radcliff comes out firing, the Chippewas could still win a league title in a close race.
