NCAAF Betting – The Race to the BCS Title Game Comes Down to its Last Week

It has been almost 20 years since the online sportsbook experts have seen the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in the top spot in the BCS rankings, but that is how things look entering the final week of the 2012 season. Some teams will play an extra week to make up for postponed games earlier in the season, but the top contenders will all finish up this weekend. After weeks of being convinced that the Alabama Crimson Tide was going to be the top seed for the BCS Championship game, the football betting sites have had to alter their thinking and include the possibility of their being a title game without the Crimson Tide.

Is the Alabama Crimson Tide completely eliminated from playing in the BCS Championship game? Actually, the Tide is ranked second in the BCS standings, so the title game would be Notre Dame playing Alabama if the season were to end today. There is so much that could happen on this last weekend that predicting who will play in the title game is difficult.

The one thing that the bookmaker betting software does know is that if the Fighting Irish beat the USC Trojans in their game, then the Irish will be in the title game. There are college football betting experts predicting that USC will upset the Irish in this game, but Notre Dame appears to be the consensus favorite to win this game and put itself into the BCS Championship game in January.

The betonline experts are not as convinced about Alabama’s chances of getting into the title game. Alabama plays a weak Auburn team in its last game of the season, while third-ranked Georgia plays Georgia Tech. Alabama would need a convincing win over Auburn to fend off Georgia. The Bulldogs should be able to handle Georgia Tech in its game and a big win by Georgia could propel the Bulldogs into the championship game. If the Bulldogs win and the Crimson Tide loses, then that gives Georgia an even better shot at grabbing a spot in the title game.

The one wild card in all of this is the fourth-ranked Florida Gators. In any playoff scenario, there are a lot of “what if” questions that get asked. What if Notre Dame loses and Florida beats 10th ranked Florida State? Could that push Florida to the number one spot and drop Notre Dame to the second rank? Could that drop Notre Dame completely out of the hunt for a national championship?

It is safe to say that if Florida wins and Georgia and Alabama lose, then it will be a championship game that features Notre Dame and Florida. It is the kind of things that can drive college football fans crazy. But it is also the very thing that makes this time of the year so exciting.
