vs.

#9 Stanford @ #4 Oregon – 8:00 PM ET on ABC

ESPN’s “College Game Day” will be on hand, as the No. 9 Stanford Cardinal (4-0) and No. 4 Oregon Ducks (4-0) will do battle to establish itself as the early conference leader and perhaps the PAC-10 title winner as well as a dark horse contender for a national title.

The stage is set for both Oregon running back LaMichael James and Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck to cement their bids as leading Heisman Trophy candidates in this PAC-10 tilt.

In last year’s meeting between these two teams, Oregon was coming off a big win over the Trojans, but suffered their first conference loss of the season the following week at Stanford, 51-42.

At first glance, this year’s Ducks seem to running amuck outscoring their opponents, 231-44. They have had success both running and passing the football, thanks to an O-line that has opened holes and allowed just a single sack so far this year.

The defense, although tied for third in scoring defense (11 ppg), have struggled against the run and were rocked in last week’s game at ASU, where the Ducks gave up nearly 600 yards.

Stanford meanwhile, will bring its 12th overall defense to Eugene, limiting its opponents to just 13 points per game. The Cardinal leads the conference with 14 sacks. Oregon is tied for second with 11.

The difference in this one will culminate in Luck’s ability to put up solid numbers through the air stretching the OU secondary by mixing up a cocktail of Doug Baldwin, Chris Owusu and Ryan Whalen, all who have potential of making the big plays downfield. Oregon may have the advantage of playing at home, but it won’t be enough to derail Stanford.
