2010 UCF Players to Watch: QB Rob Calabrese, TB Brynn Harvey, RT Jah Reid, WR Kamar Aiken, WR A.J. Guyton, DE Bruce Miller, LB Derrick Hallman, CB Josh Robinson

2010 UCF Strengths:
The offensive line Is set with the return of four starters, including Reid, an all-conference selection. The wide receiver corps is deep. Miller is an All-America candidate up front on defense. The secondary was rebuilt last year and welcomes back fifth-year senior Emery Allen, Injured In 2009.

2010 UCF Weaknesses:
Calabrese has been up and down in the last two years. True freshman Jeffrey Godfrey and Stanford transfer L.D. Crow back him up. Both starting tackles are gone on defense. Three freshmen, Including January enrollee E.J. Dunston, are listed on the two-deep.

2010 UCF Offense:

Rob Calabrese has shown he can win the starting job at quarterback. His problem is hanging onto it. Calabrese, a junior, has made a handful of starts in the past two years but has yet to end a season as the No.1 man. But he held off a challenge from freshman Jeffrey Godfrey in the spring and will go into fall camp atop the depth chart. The offense returns eight starters, but the Knights may be without one of them when they open Sept. 4 against South Dakota. Junior runningback Brynn Harvey (1,109 yards rushing in 2009) tweaked a knee in the spring and could miss some early games. Moving from fullback to take his place is sophomore Brendan Kelly, who at 231 pounds is a strong runner between the tackles. The Knights look set at wide receiver with the return of junior A.J. Guyton (a team-high 44 receptions) and senior Kamar Aiken (a team-best 610 yards receiving). Sophomore Quincy McDuffie had a great spring. Senior Jah Reid was a first-team all-conference tackle in 2009 and heads a cast of four returning starters on the line. Guard Theo Goins was on the league’s All-Freshman team. The lone newcomer is sophomore center Jordan Rae, who emerged ahead of junior Zac Norris in the spring.

2010 UCF Defense:

With seven returning starters from a unit that ranked fourth nationally against the run, UCF has big hopes for a defense led by senior end Bruce Miller. Miller was Conference USA’s Defensive Player of the Year in 2009, and his 27 career sacks lead all returning active players nationally. Senior David Williams is a returning starter at the other end, but the tackle spots feature new starters in Wes Tunuufi Sauvao and true freshman E.J. Dunston, who enrolled early to take part in the spring. Redshirt freshmen Victor Gray and Frankie Davis are backups. Two seniors who sat out 2009 because of injuries return to bolster the unit. Chance Henderson moves in at middle linebacker. He’s flanked by returning senior starters Derrick Hallman and Lawrence Young, and Emery Allen emerged ahead of returning starter Justin Boddie at a cornerback spot. Other returning starters in the secondary are cornerback Josh Robinson (six interceptions) and safety Kemal Ishmael.

2010 UCF Special Teams:

Both specialists retum Nick Cattoi hit on 14 of 20 field goals, including 5 of 7 from beyond 40 yards. Punter Blake Clingan averaged only 37.1 yards last year, down three yards from 2008, but 24 of 65 attempts were downed inside the opponent’s 20-yard line. Guyton (10.8 on punts) and McDuffie (24.2 on kickoffs) are back in the return game.
