San Francisco fell victim to the Rams last week and looks to have run out of magic.

Both Alex and Troy Smith were hit hard and were sacked two times apiece in the game. The 49ers do feature two capable receivers in Vernon Davis and Michael Crabtree, who have combined for over 1,600 yards and 12 touchdowns, but the opportunities are too few. The offense ranks 22nd in passing and 21st in rushing.

The defense is a little better but not much, as it does rank 7th in opponent rushing but does little against the pass ranking 24th.

After a 0-5 start, any finish is a bright side and Arizona is bad enough to make even the 49ers look good.

The Cardinals are a bottom of the league offense, and just about there on defense. They did manage to squeak out a 27-26 win against Dallas last week but even that was a nail biter.

Third string QB John Skelton watched as the Cowboys rallied from 18 down to take a 2-point lead. Stephen McGee issued a 37-yard bullet to Miles Austin with under two minutes remaining. The extra point went wide, and Arizona relied on kicker Jay Feely once again.

I don’t think I’ve seen a kicker play such a role in recent memory, and Feely has to be considered for team MVP at this point, nailing a 48-yard field goal with five seconds left for the win.

Both of these teams can be dreadful to watch, but at least SF has a few bright spots that make them more watchable.

The odds makers have the San Francisco 49ers as a -6 point favorite with an over/under of 38.5.
