AFC West Win Totals Predictions

2010 AFC West – Win Totals Preview, Predictions & Picks

AFC West Win TotalsWith all 32 teams eagerly preparing for the 2010 NFL football season, it is time to take a look at the projected win total for each team to try and determine whether they will go over, stay under, or push. Today we take a look at each team in the AFC West.

San Diego Chargers – Win Total Prediction: 11

san diego chargers previewBefore the preseason started, picking San Diego to win 12 or 13 games and cruise to the AFC West title seemed like a no-brainer. With the start of the regular season right around the corner and the Chargers still embroiled in some serious contract disputes; this no longer seems like a lock. Vincent Jackson, the team’s leading wide receiver in 2009 appears content to hold out the entire season to try and force the team to either pay him or trade him. Also missing from the team for the same reason is All Pro LT Marcus McNeill, who is primarily responsible for protecting Philip Rivers’ blind side. These are two players that you do not to try and make a championship run without – UNDER.

Denver Broncos – Win Total Prediction: 7.5

denver broncos previewIt is still hard to know what to expect from this team. Will they play like the one that stormed out to a 6-0 start last season, or the one that limped in to finish 8-8? QB Kyle Orton has the ability to be a great quarterback in this league if he learns to play more consistent. He will also have to overcome the loss of his favorite receiver; Brandon Marshall. The Broncos defense has already been impacted by the loss of DE Elvis Dumervil, its most productive player. They finished last season ranked seventh overall, but 26th against the run so losing him will not help their cause. None the less, there is still enough talent on this team to at least get to .500 – OVER.

Kansas City Chiefs – Win Total Prediction: 6.5

kansas city chiefs previewIn his second season with the team and Todd Haley’s offensive scheme, QB Matt Cassel should be able to play better than last year when he only completed 55 percent of his passes and threw as many interceptions as touchdowns (16). RB Jamaal Charles is set up to have a big year, as the Chiefs will still look to keep the ball on the ground as much as possible. Hiring Romeo Crennel as their defensive coordinator and drafting S Eric Berry in the first round already makes this defense better than last year’s but it still might not be enough to turn the corner this year – UNDER.

Oakland Raiders – Win Total Prediction: 6

oakland raiders previewOakland has suddenly become a lot of people’s boutique pick for the turnaround team of 2010. With Jason Campbell coming over from Washington as their new quarterback along with the steady progression of TE Zach Miller and WR Darrius Heyward-Bey, the Raiders passing offense will be much improved. Where Oakland should be much better is on defense, with the addition of first round pick LB Rolando McClain and second round pick DT Lamarr Houston. It took awhile, but the Raiders are finally beginning to build a team that can win more than four or five games a season – OVER.
