Denver finished fourth in the AFC West last year with a 4-12 record. The Broncos were 3-5 at home and 1-7 on the road. They went 1-5 in the division and 3-9 in the conference.

They failed to qualify for the postseason.

Denver Broncos 2011 Preview

The only buzz coming out of Denver these days in the debate over whether or not Kyle Orton or Tim Tebow should be the Broncos starting quarterback come opening day against Oakland. Forget about the fact that this team only won four games last season and has actually gone 6-20 since winning the first six games of the 2009 season. Also forget that the Broncos’ defense was ranked dead-last in the league last season in total yards and points allowed. Given the current holes that exist up and down this roster, there are many more issues than just at the quarterback position, as new head coach John Fox has a major rebuilding project on his hands.

Regardless of which QB gets the nod, the Broncos will look to move the ball with a running game that is centered on Knowshon Moreno, who led the team with 779 rushing yards last season. With RB Correll Buckhalter’s release, Moreno will be counted on to carry the bulk of the load this season, unless Willis McGahee can resurrect his career here. WR Brandon Lloyd will draw even more attention this season with Jabar Gaffney signing with Washington. Lloyd led the team with 77 receptions for 1,448 yards last season, but has been hobbled in practice so far with some swelling in his knee.

Denver tried to address some of its needs on defense by drafting Texas A&M LB Von Miller with the second overall pick in the draft and FS Rahim Moore with the 13th pick in the second round. It added another LB Nate Irving in the third round and all told used six of its nine picks on this side of the ball. They added a few role players through trades and free agency including DT Brodrick Bunkley from Philadelphia and DE Ty Warren from New England, which should add some depth up front.

The Broncos have been pretty much been putting band aids on some deep wounds this offseason, although the addition of Miller on defense instantly makes this team better. Denver may shock one or two teams this season, but anything more than five wins would be a real stretch.
