Atlanta Falcons vs Seattle Seahawks

The birds will be in flight when the Atlanta Flacons head to Seattle to face the Seahawks. Clichés aside, the two teams have the same record, but are expected to end the season in very different positions, but one game could change all that.

Quarterback Matt Ryan is in a spot that he hasn’t been used to since joining the Atlanta Falcons as a rookie. Last year, when the Falcons finished the season with an NFL-best 14-2 record, Ryan was only sacked 23 times. So far this year, he’s been sacked 13 times.

Ryan was especially beat up last week against Atlanta’s division foe, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, when he was sacked four times in one game.

Ryan is expected to get a break though when the team faces the Seattle Seahawks. Seattle hasn’t been able to put any pressure on opposing quarterbacks this season.

This will not be how the game is won, though, as the Seahawks, if they want to get back to .500, must put up some points. They are averaging just 10 points per game so far this season, and are ranked 30th in passing yards and 29th in rushing yards.

The Tavaris Jackson experiment has failed, and the team is likely eyeing that number-one overall draft pick. But, they are already behind a game in that contest.

Wide receiver Sidney Rice did finally see some action last week, and he proved that he was a solid pickup for the team, that has been looking for a number-one wideout since head coach Pete Carroll arrived in Seattle. Rice caught 8 passes for 109 yards in his Northeast debut, and is expected to get the same amount of attention this week. Unfortunately, the Falcons will likely key on him, thus putting the Seahawks back to square one.

If running back Marshawn Lynch can get some production (he has rushed for just 117 yards in the team’s first three games), the passing game will likely appreciate it. Now, if it is going to happen, it likely isn’t going to against the Falcons, who are ranked 20th is rushing yards allowed, but have played far superior teams than the Seahawks.

The odds makers have the Atlanta Falcons as a -3 point favorite with an over/under of 19.5.

Matt’s Prediction: Falcons 13, Seahawks 7 – This is likely to be a very low-scoring affair, with both offenses failing to put points on the board, and both defenses playing well. Take the over, because it’s just 19 ½, but expect the Falcons to put up more points than the Seahawks.
